Things Are Getting A Little Harry

This year will forever be remembered as the years Harry Potter took over my wardrobe. After my jaunt in Wizarding World, I’ve been rocking the crap out of my Gryffindor House sweater- I wear it to work, I wear it while shopping, and yesterday, I even wore it to the spa (it was cold out…so cold we even had our first snow! How wintertime in Hogsmead of us!). I’m kind of addicted to this sweater.

Yesterday, I met up with a friend for lunch (it’s amazing how much time I have for friends when I’m not doing both school and work! I’ve seen more friends in the last week than I had in the last three months) and we exchanged some pretty epic gifts. Imagine how thrilled I was when I opened this little gem?!

Yeah, I was beyond excited to be holding my very own golden snitch necklace! (Shout out to my friend Ashley who handcrafted him for me!) You bet you’re going to see him pop up on the blog from time to time. I can’t wait to figure out how I can make him be a work appropriate accessory. She also got me the fanciest snuggie out there…check the poms on this guy!

Yay! Goofy Face Picture!!!

And so it has begun. Pretty soon you’ll be seeing me rock a robe and tie like it’s no big deal, I’ll be working my time-turner like it’s my third year at Hogwarts, and I’ll have a magic bag where I keep all my possessions stashed away…or maybe not. Guess you’ll just have to keep an eye on the blog to see just how far bad my Harry addiction gets. But be sure of one thing, I’ll be wearing my snuggie as the coolest blanket cape ever for the next six months straight.

Happy Sunday folks!

Office Costume

My whole transition into business-casual-land hit a new milestone yesterday…it was time for the office Halloween Costume. Ooooo ahhhh, I know, what was I, you ask? Well, I rocked the crap out of Hermione. Ohhhh yes, I pulled out my Scotland wool sweater, brought the wand into public, and learned to tie a tie all in order to pull off this level of awesomeness…and I’s pretty sure it was a success.

Mostly, though, I was just pretty dang excited to wear my HP gear all day…in public…without judgement…mostly. There were a few interesting looks shot my way when I walked into the grocery store on my lunch break but, despite the weird (probably jealous, let’s be honest) looks,  it was a blast being a wizard. If only I could take wizarding up as a full time profession…that would be the life!

As a side note, Dave (yep, Marci’s Dave who also happens to be my lunchtime photographer) and I had never considered the the fact that there is a parking garage attached to the building we work in…this was just the thing Marci and I dreamt of in months past, trudging through puddles and downpour just to snag a picture or two! How we didn’t realize there was photo shoot gold 30 feet from my desk is beyond me (derp moment, by chance?), regardless, it’s pretty awesome knowing we’ll never have to walk in the rain again for a lunch time photo shoot. It’s the little things in life, folks. Wands and parking garages are all it takes to live a very happy life.

How was everyone elses’ Halloween? I hope everyone had fun and ate some yummy treats! Annnnd mad props for anyone else who was a wizard, too! Making the dream come true on Halloween at a time.

Stripes: The Final Vacation Post

It’s that time, folks, the last vacation post of my epic East Coast adventures. Florida was a long rerun of allergy free pancakes, theme parks, and laughter so I think the best way to sum up this segment of travel is to throw about a million pictures of me and my friend, Blue. The first pictures are of us at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom (*cough cough* seven hundred pictures of giraffe butts because I am really a 6 year old trapped in this big person body) and the final set are from Universal Studios (more specifically, Wizarding World of Harry Potter) and a rainy day photoshoot of us EPICALLY nerding out. Please revel in our nerdiness and let me know in the comments if you’ve ever had a similar photoshoot because I would love to know we weren’t the only ones who were so HP excited!

Our very dorky HP photoshoot came up because of an 8 hour thunder and lightning storm accentuated by a torrential downpour and a Lifetime movie marathon. Needless to say, after being stuck in our hotel room for hours and hours right after buying a TON of HP stuff we *had* to have a photoshoot.

Anyone else having a nerdy summer? I sure hope so! Life’s way(yyyyyyyy) more fun this way!

Stripes: Quick Florida Update

Hey guys! I’ve been up to a lot of this:

And this:

(Yes, that’s a sugar quill! And yes, you can write with the tip!!! TRUE MAGIC!)

Which hasn’t left very much time to write a well worded description of anything I’ve been up to so I’m going to let you fill in the blanks on these ones today! More Stripey posts with actual substance will be coming your way late next week, but until then let your imagination run wild as to how awesome this trip has been…it’s probably pretty close to what’s been going on down here (especially if you were imagining me fighting evil dragons, riding hippogriffs, pulling swords out of stones, or taming wild, flying elephants)!

Stripes: A Small Hometown Layover

I have a little something to tell you, dearest blog readers (but I’m sorry if I’m sounding like a broken record because I can’t remember if I already mentioned my news because it’s been in the works for quite some time): this is my summer of epic vacationing. And as I am finishing this post, I am sitting in the airport waiting to take off to New York City!

The last few years I’ve barely left my little college town for more than a night or two-aside from my summer on an alpaca ranch in Idaho 4 summers ago which did, admittedly, help me to explore all sorts of cool places as I had many car adventures in those days before I had a smartphone or GPS (*cough cough* getting so lost I ended up 80 miles into Montana….)-but since I was leaving my town for good, I decided to do things the Stripes way, and do it all the way. So this has, somewhat unintentionally and mostly by great luck and generosity, become my summer of jet-setting.

This is my favorite picture from my alpaca days. His name is Boss and he was such a little flirt! He has nothing to do with this summer’s travels [unfortunately] but he is quite the eye candy nonetheless.

I meant to write you all a post about it before Portland (stop number one) but, because of some stuff going on in my non-blogy personal life, I’ve been a little spacey. But, better late than never, right? So over the next 2 weeks I’m going to be having a blast over the East Coast living one exciting little life! My first stop is NYC then I’m off to Florida for some epic theme park hopping (oh yes, there will be some Micky Mouse ears and a Magic Wand from Ollivanders) and getting my burn tan on!

I’m going to try my hardest to keep up on the blog, but I can’t promise I won’t miss a day or two…traveling is exhausting business! What I can promise you is a post about how I’m pulling off 13 days of travel with just one carry-on bag and my purse (mainly because I am going to finish it and schedule it while I wait for my flight…but let me tell you, it was kinda epic how much stuff I was able to fit in my bag). And yes, you heard me right-a fashion blogger making it almost two weeks on one bag’s worth of clothing. Packing has been a real process and I fully plan to explain (and show via tons of pictures) how I made it work because I’m not going to lie, I am pretty darn proud of myself.

And of course, a cute picture of me leaving my house for my grand adventures!

I can also promise you a bunch of pictures from the East-partly because I love you all and wanna show you the cool stuff I’m going to see, but also because my mom made me swear I’m going to take a million pictures so there will a zillion pictures for me to show you all what I’ve been up to! Also, I’m going to try my hardest to get a few outfit photo shoots in because I’ve been hoarding some cool new stuff for this trip and am planning to up my fashionability factor (while in NY any ways…I make no promises for how cute I will look in Orlando-that leg of the trip will mainly be denim shorts, bikinis, and a complete lack of make-up).

Anyways, I’m off to have some adventures and make some memories!
