Remixed to Perfection

Talking about clothing and outfits feels a little empty after the events of the weekend. I’ve written more about my views on everything on my other blog, so if you need to stay in that moment and reflect some more, I respect that. I also know that there are a lot of good people out there who eventually need a break from the heavy, and that’s what this post is about.

Marci 12-15-12 Face

I’ve ignored this dress for a long time, mostly because I couldn’t figure out a way to wear it without hating it. I knew it existed–I just hadn’t found it yet. The shape is tricky around my midsection which is less a problem about looking bad and more about feeling frumpy. Also? Orange, brown & cream? difficult colors to add to.

Sweater & Tights: Target | Dress: Sojourner | Shoes: Thrifted | Coat: H&M

I found this dress on massive sale at a little boutique up in Bellingham, but I know it was on Modcloth for a while. I tried to find it for you, but with no luck. You’re free to try on your own, though. Those birds are wearing neck ties, fancy hats and monocles, so I’m not sure what print could possibly be better.

Marci 12-15-12 Coat

This coat is meant for spring, but it’s meant for springs that are dryer than the ones we have so I usually wear it in winter–the closest thing we have to ad ry season. I have to layer it extra or I freeze, and today was definitely a day that required more layers I had. All in all, though, my outfit felt super successful. Remember kids–adding color is always the right option.

Rule Breaker

I got a call from my mom on Tuesday asking if I wanted to have lunch with her before work. Well, duh. I was running out of outfit posts, mom. I kid, I kid. I mean, I still have one more stockpiled. I decided to break the rules of work and wear a patterned skirt. And by decided, I mean I’m out of clothes and need to do laundry pretty badly.

My manager didn’t bat an eye at my skirt, so I think it gets to be on the sometimes rotation. Yay for small victories in rule breaking! Also, take a good look at that photo–it was taken by mom, who’s getting to be a total champ. I want to give her a nice big shout out for doing a bunch of my outfit photos lately. She used to be pretty timid about it, but this time she just snapped a few shots and handed my camera back to me like a boss. It’s a fun process to watch.

Marci 12-11-12 Top

I know I’ve talked about this cape before, but hot damn I love it so. It was inspired by David’s mom, who has a much nicer and higher quality cape. I remember the first time I saw it on her and immediately thought omgwantcape. I went back to Bellingham shortly after and almost immediately thrifted this beauty. It’s a little tight around the bust on me, but I don’t care. It satisfied that itch pretty effectively!

PS–Hooray for celebrating the end of the world, guys! Unless it’s supposed to end at the end of today instead of the beginning. In which case, this might be the last blog post ever from us. Stay tuned.

The Power of Unicorns

I don’t take Facebook seriously, and on my personal page my about me goes like this-

If you’re bright pink and covered in glitter, there is a 98.45% chance that I’ll love you forever. The odds increase if you are also a unicorn.

It’s been a bit for a while now, but I have to say it’s true. If you’re a unicorn, there is a high probability that I will love you. So when David checked the mail and found this package waiting for me from the weekend, he won massive points.

It’s kind of hard to tell, I know but it’s a unicorn necklace he found online. That guy spoils me and I like it. Also, I didn’t realize this until after we did the photos, but it was super windy and I have a unicorn horn in every photo. I must be channeling their power!

Sweater & Shirt: H&M | Necklace: Gift | Shorts Tights & Shoes: Target

I have to say I’m really in love with this shirt from H&M (sale section, $5, yes please) but what really sealed the deal was how it perfectly frames the unicorn in the shirt pattern. I mean, it just doesn’t get much better than that!

Slushie Madness

My mom and I agreed that getting Arctic Frosts from Dairy Queen was going to be essential to our well-being during our errands run on Friday. She’s never insisted on her own before and usually we share mine, but this time was different. This time she had a craving.

Sweater: Kohls | Shirt: Zara’s (Thrifted) | Skirt: H&M | Tights: Target | Shoes: B.A.I.T

Pretty much five seconds after we had them in hand, she realized (with my prompting, that she actually wanted a slurpee from 7-11. I don’t know about you guys, but those slurpees are like my favorite comfort treat ever. It’s like candy flavored ice foam. Ridiculousness.

Since this was a day off, I opted for lots of color. So much blue color I even matched my drink, because that’s how dedicated I am. Also, please note the hair. I think this is my first good hair day on the blog in weeks. These shots don’t quite show it off, but it’s getting spiky in the back.

My First Day of Work

If you’re even a little surprised to see that I wore my black skinny jeans in this outfit post, then clearly you and I have differing opinions on what it means to be obsessed. Which is fine. But seriously don’t be surprised.

Sweater & Jeans: Kohls | Shirt: H&M | Necklace: Gift | Shoes: Clarks

Like I said, don’t be surprised. Also, after my first day of work I found out the dress code was monochromatic black & white. Patternless black and white. Which is even more strict than the last time I had a job with a black and white dress code. So expect to see a hell of a lot more of these black skinny jeans.

David saw the first picture I posted and commented on how good I’m doing with the whole taking my own pictures thing. Of course, what he didn’t see in that picture is that it’s the closest thing to a full body shot. I failzored hardcore, friends. This was the best shoe shot I got. Also, I love these shoes. I don’t care how so not in fashion they are. I love them. Love love love.

I posted a photo on my other blog about my first day jitters. It’s not accurate, though. The photo above is way more accurate regarding how I looked on the first day. Can you see the difference? It’s subtle, I know.

Answer: no nose ring for work time. and this is how I feel about it.

The Many Faces of A Fashion Blogger

This outfit was the outfit where I realized I have officially become a fashion blogger. “Why,” You may be asking, “is this outfit so much more magnificent than any other outfit?” Because I layered cardigans. Oh yes, I have entered the big leagues oh epic layering that only fabulous fashion bloggers and J. Crew Models attempt. And with big league clothing comes big league faces….I hope you’re ready for the many faces of a fashion blogger.

The smug, I’m a legit fashion blogger look.

The really intense like my outfit darn it look.

The photobombing yourself look.

And the normal fashion blogger look.

Oh yes, I think I have finally arrived as a fashion blogger (next stop: add some chambray and start working toward J. Crew model…I totes got this) 😛

A Day in the Life

Oh boy, yesterday was quite the busy day (as are most days in the life of a full time worker and student, I’ve found) and in the chaos of everything I realized, I very rarely show you how many outfits I actually wear in a day. So I thought it might be fun to show what a day in my life looks like via the clothes I wear. Be prepared to see the good, the mediocre, and the not so pretty because I’m bringing it all. You’ve been warned.

Outfit #1: Work

Gotta get my Blue Steel on for this one! This is quite the usual Kels business casual look. I love wearing layers to work because perhaps all my coworkers are polar bears and I didn’t notice (admittedly unlikely because polar bears are SO CUTE, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt) but our office is constantly freezing. I’ve been super excited to wear this sweater in particular but, for whatever reason, I couldn’t figure out how to wear it until this morning. I don’t know what clicked but suddenly it made so much sense to wear it to the office over this super comfy H&M shirt. Moment of business casual genius perhaps?

Sweater:Ross//Shirt:H&M//Pants:Gap//Shoes: Target

Despite the fact that I’ve been having a hard time figuring out how to wear green shoes (I mean seriously, there’s some magic that goes into wearing colorful shoes that I’m not 100% sure I possess…maybe I should talk Marci into giving me color lessons), I was digging the pop of color this morning with my otherwise rather 50 shades of gray outfit. (Now get your minds out of the gutter! This is me we’re talking about…and I was at the office…and it’s me…)

Outfit #2: School

Because I’ve been SUPER busy and stressed with all the epic life changes going on in the last couple months, I’ve really been making a point to wear clothes I adore to class which is why I was delighted to pull out the jellyfish sweatshirt this morning! This gem, which I’m pretty sure was part of my first blog post ever, usually results in a smile being instantly plastered on my face when it makes its way out of my closet so it was an obvious choice for my quick change after work before I headed out to classes.

Sweatshirt:Farmers Market//Jeans:Gap//Shoes:Target

I also love getting to wear jeans so I have started making sure I pack a pair for class in the mornings before I make my way to the office. Theres something about it that just changes my mind set into that of a studious student. Maybe it’s because I wore jeans almost everyday to classes for the last 5 years so there is a sense of familiarity but it just feels so right slipping into them.

Outfit #3: (Only Because I Like You) Blogging

And this, my friends, is how I looked while I typed up this very post. Oh yes, my face has been scrubbed (though I did take off the ring of mascara I usually ignore around my eyes, just for you), hair is in a messy bun, sweat pants on, and a tshirt from a school activity. Yes, I dress exceedingly relaxed when I’m at home (though, don’t most people?). There’s just something so wonderful and relaxing about throwing on the sweat pants and pulling back your hair at the end of a long day.

Shirt:Sexual Awareness Center//Sweats:Pink by Victoria Secret//Earrings:Kohls

In case you were wondering…I ditched the green shoes for this look.

There you have it, a day in the life of Kels via the clothing on my back and the shoes (or lack there of) on my feet. And yes, you did just witness the posting baggy sweat pants on a fashion blog…that did just happen.

Stripes: I Hate to Admit It, But I’m Not Superwoman

Ahh the last 5 years have been intense. I’ve learned how to multitask, keep lists, and rock projects for both work and school. How to prioritize. How to push my limits and do more things than I ever thought possible. I’ve also learned that sometimes I can’t do it all.

I was initially excited to blog about this outfit because it was the first themed Friday we had in my department and we did Fancy Friday. How fun is that? (the answer, jsyk, is way fun). But see that face? That’s an exhausted face after fighting an hour of traffic to make it home from the office after a full day at work. I’m exhausted. And I haven’t even started my paralegal program (which starts this week making me both a full-time worker and full-time student).

Seeing this photoshoot was the last straw for me (and you’re getting the least tired looking pictures in the bunch). All the photos showed just how tired I am: bags under my eyes and no color in my face despite the blush I layer on in the mornings and, suddenly, I realized I don’t think I can do it all. Especially once I add school in to the mix.

So I’m sad to say, starting this week, I am only going to be able to post twice a week until next summer once I’m back to only having one full time occupation. I’m so sorry. This is not a decision I am taking lightly, but I don’t want to post just to post nor do I believe the quality of my writing will be up to my usual level if I’m falling asleep while typing.

Dress&Black Tights: H&M//Blazer&Blue Tights:F21// Shoes:Lucky Brand via Macys

Despite the fact that I feel like I’m letting people down by doing this, I realize in order to not fully burn out, I need to take care of myself and my commitments. This is not easy for me to admit (what you’re not reading are the two paragraphs of excuses and attempts for me to legitimize this decision which were way more for me to help comfort my type-A mind than to help you understand me), but I want to produce quality posts for this blog and I’ve learned enough about my sleep deprived brain in the last 5 years it’s not going to happen if I’m posting 3-4 times a week while holding two full-time occupations.

Again, I do, fully, plan to come back to posting every other day once I’m done with the craziness that is going to be the next 9 months but until than, I’m going to have to accept that I’m not Superwoman and sometimes I just need to accept that I need rest in order to function (crazy, right? Who’da thunk?).

And on this note (kind of), any advice from people who have worked full time and gone to night school? Any tips about how to stay awake when you’re only getting 6ish hours of sleep every night? Any suggestions of how to not go absolutely crazy while juggling a lot? I’d LOVE (ok, let’s be real, I’d freaking love) to hear all about it in the comments!

Channeling My Inner Marci

Happy Monday! These last couple of weeks have been crazy in Kels-land and are only set to get busier as my paralegal classes start in a week. To burn off some steam what have I been doing? Taking some fashion risks on the weekends!

Oh yes, what you can’t really see in these pictures is that I did, indeed, pulling a page directly from the Marci book of everyday fashion , layer tights! Heck yes!

I also got to bust out this scarf- a gift that fly all the way from Thailand just to be worn around my neck. Oh yes, This scarf was pretty much begging to be worn with my new, ballsy layered tights look and I have to say, it wasn’t hard to say “yes, scarf, you would make the perfect addition to this outfit.” (And, yes, I do totally have conversations with my clothes…that’s normal, right?)

I leave you with my most Marci pose. Have a great Monday, and let us know what you think of the new layout and “about me” sections in the comments! We’d love to hear your feedback!

Stripes: A Little Brady

Can I just take a second to say how awesome big girl paydays are? For Reals, folks, this first paycheck of mine went almost completely a little towards some new wardrobe pieces that I’m really excited for…especially this Brady-licious shirt.

Oh yes, I took it there. I’m going all groovy on you, folks, and bringing out my inner Florence Henderson with this new shirt. I got a little excited at H&M and found out they have a shirt (that comes in about 10 different colors and patterns) that is cut perfect for my body…and only costs $20. Yeah, I had to get on that bandwagon. Luckily, I’ve been working on having more self-control so I was able to walk out with just one shirt, not the 15 I wanted (the pair of snazzy new jeans I shelled out for definitely didn’t hurt my self-control either).

Oh moderation, how very Brady Bunch of me. I’ve realized, however, the older I get, the more I am like the Bradys-is that weird? Eh, I enjoy it and they *do* have some pretty out of sight wardrobes so I don’t think I’d have it any other way.
