Sequins: A Teensy Break

So I think when I’ve forgotten two posts within one week, it’s time to admit that I’m stretched a wee bit too thin. Don’t worry, though, guys, Stripes and I talked it out–she’s going to cover my back until I’m settled in my new home, which should be hopefully next week. And then I’ll be back to talk about the awesomeness that was my sister’s bridal shower. Trust me–there will be awesomeness. Stripes & I might have had a ridiculous amount of fun with the photo booth! For now, though, know that I’ll miss you guys and also I figured out how to style a skirt that I’d been feeling weird about. It’s the little things that keep me happy.

Both the skirt and the sweater are the oddballs in my closet. Do you guys have articles like that? Like, I really like them and want to keep them, but every time I feel like I’ve got an outfit figured out, it somehow doesn’t work. Except for this one…. (I hope!)

This is exciting. Not quite as exciting as moving my entire life to Seattle, where I’ll be near family, my best friend from high school and her awesome boyfriend, nearer to Stripes, and Plaid will be a stone’s throw away.  Honestly, the only crummy part is leaving Lace and her soon-to-be Husband behind. So it’s a good thing I know her and I will always be good about Girl’s Nights, and her future husband is besties with Monsieur as well.

The not-so-exciting part? Packing. Ugh. I mean, Plaid is pretty frickin’ fabulous and helping us, but still. It’s crummy. Thank goodness for good friends. Oh also? Thank goodness for cotton candy machines. Especially at bridal showers.

Whoa, that was random. Why was that so random?

This is what jolly ranchers look like after being used in a cotton candy machine. It’s pulverized sugar crystals.

And since I like being nice, if you entered a comment, then email me your address and I’ll send you a handmade card. But not until after I’m done with my move….

See y’all in a week!

Sequins: Odds & Ends

I was so distracted I didn’t even have a title for my post on Sunday. My bad.

Right now, I’m reading this book and this book. They’re both amazing and quick reads. The first one is particularly compelling, and broken into easy bite-sized pieces. Also, this is one of the coolest ideas for that region. I approve.

I have five loads of laundry to finish by the end of the day. It’s going to be a long day.

Oh have you seen this pin? That’s my tattoo. As in, that’s a photo of my wrist. I love that tattoo more and more, but the questions surrounding my arm seem to be growing in boldness since the tattoo. No, my scars aren’t fake. No, they aren’t tattoos “made to match”. Oh, and no, no you can not grab my arm or touch me in any way. I don’t care how curious you are.

I haven’t even commented on it yet, but Nicole’s post about makeup is amazing. I’m super proud of hr, in a creepy stalker blogger way. I went through something similar, and I’m at a happy middle ground where I rarely put on makeup, but don’t feel guilty when I choose to. It’s a difficult place to find.

There are a ton of these types of cars around my small hipster town. This one has the best back, hands down.

Is it hand’s down or hands down? I’ve asked lots of people, and no one seems to have a definitive answer.

Monsieur recently got into Doctor Who about frickin’ time, amiright? and so two nights ago we played this game. Hilarity and silliness ensued.

I’m avidly going through all the N64 games Monsieur put on my laptop (goodness gracious I love him) but I’m still stuck on this level and I can’t get past it! I need nine more notes, and I’m a perfectionist that refuses to leave until I find them again. Hmph.

I “made this” for my sister’s bridal shower. It’s the “trailmix” we used to eat on roadtrips when were kids. Granted, we never mixed it all together, but the point remains the same. I’ll even share my top secret recipe with you:

  • 1 bag of Lemonheads (or 2 boxes)
  • 3 bags of Sugarbabies (or 2 boxes)
  • 1 med. bag of plain M&Ms
  • 1 bag of Wintergreen Lifesavers

*Mix all ingredients in a bowl * Stir gently * Serve*

Clever, I know.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, but I want one of these. Specifically, this one.

That’s a family portrait I made for my mom, I think for her birthday. It’s sad to think that it’s not up-to-date anymore. I kind of miss that little fluffy face. A lot.

There might be a silly ridiculous giveaway in this post. Oh whoa now! What is it?

Leave a comment with a guess as to what this is, and I’ll pick someone to send a hand-made card to. Snazzy, eh? Okay, fine, mostly I’m bored. Give me an excuse to write a card, yeah?

Sequins: #4, I love driving my car

Old picture of me in front of Monsieur's old car before a road trip. Better believe I am a passenger like none other!

So, as you guys guessed (/came very close to guessing), I don’t drive. The lie wasn’t just that I had my own car (which I don’t), or that I love driving (which I’m actually very much NOT a fan of), but I don’t even have a license. I had a permit for like three years once I was sixteen, but it expired before I ever got around to taking a test. This baffles most people, but as someone who excels in reading bus schedules and riding her bicycle, I don’t find my choices baffling in the least. It helps that my commute to work is a twenty minute walk.

The only reason that I have renewed my permit with the intention of getting my license this time is because, while he is very supportive of being my personal chauffeur, has mentioned that it might be nice for, when we go out to dinner, me to occasionally drive him back home. So he can enjoy an adult beverage. I found this request reasonable, so his birthday present from me (early July) is to drive him home after dinner. He owns a stick, not an automatic, so we’ve been having fun with that learning process.

FYI, if you’re ever in need of a great couples-exercise to learn how to listen to your partner, have him teach you how to drive. It works wonders for your communication skills. Especially if he (the usually laid back one) is the one teaching you (the… ahem… bossier one in the relationship).

But, yes, I have a jaw made partially of titanium bolts after orthodontic surgery; I used to volunteer in an animal shelter and took care of a baby bear the first night he was brought in after a car accident; I had a peacock as a pet when I was a kid and absolutely hated it–I very much Portlandia-style don’t like birds; and I could definitely survive off of pineapple exclusively.

Since I can't think of a good picture for my lie I decided to post a picture of my new favorite snack: plain rice cakes with almond butter on top. Seriously, you should try it!

Ha! I’ve fooled you all! I actually have not seen Ben Gibbard at the grocery store. BUT don’t feel too down about my grocery store starspotting, I did see Ryan Stiles two years ago while buying a loaf of bread. And hey, the stuff in my picture came from the grocery store, so it’s practically the same as Sequin’s awesome picture, right?

But, yeah, I’ve been terrified of worms since a fateful walking in the grass incident when I was 6. I’ve slowly been trying to regain my ability to walk barefoot in the grass thanks to a group of my friends who have gingerly moved many-a-worm for me. And, yes, I have co-piloted a plane when I was a kid. We had family friends with a small private plane and the passenger seat happened to also be the co-pilot seat.

Thanks again for guessing!

Sequins: Thinking Out Loud

Dress, Necklace, Belt & Shoes: Thrifted; Jacket & Sweater: Target; Tights:

It totally snowed the other day. Monsieur and I were sitting on the couch and being lazy on Sunday when I looked out and saw beautiful flurries coming down full force. It didn’t stick, and stopped in about an hour, but man oh man was it pretty. I’m totally okay with it snowing all the time. None of my coworkers (except the one from Iowa) agrees with me, but that’s okay. They don’t have to.

This dress was almost deemed too short for work. I almost wore a pencil skirt underneath it. The belt almost didn’t make it onto the final cut for the outfit. I’m really glad all of those “almost”s didn’t pan out.

This month is a busy month at work. Our second most busy time of the year is gearing up to start, and I’m pretty excited about that.  It’s nice to be really active and busy at work. Not that I’m never not busy, of course, but working on new and exciting projects is way more fun that maintenance projects that never seem to finish, if you know what I”m sayin’.

Monsieur took these pictures before our lunch date, and this was his “blogger photo”. I’ve decided I need to do a lot more sewing projects. I thrifted the most amazing red polka dot dress, and it desperately needs hemmed to a new length. I want to get that done. I also added buttons to a skirt so I can wear it with suspenders (pictures soon), and I’ve decided that all my skirts and pants need hidden buttons for suspender options. I have a list of my top five articles that need prioritized for suspender optioning, though, and I should go from there. Now that there’s a sun re-emerging in the sky, it’s definitely time for sewing. I have no clue why those two things are related, but apparently they are.

Also, have you entered your guess for Stripes’ and I’s giveaway? You should totally check it out! It’s okay if someone’s already guessed what you would guess. We’re being pretty chill about the giveaway so it doesn’t matter if you’re right or wrong–we just want to hear from you! And in return, one of the lucky commenters is going to get this handmade brooch:

Good luck!

Sequins & Stripes: Let’s Play A Game

We’re going to play a fun game– Four Truths & A Lie. This blog has been going on for a bit–almost six months–so it’s time to see how many readers we have, and how much they think they know about us. We’re each going to post a list of four things that are true and one lie, and you have to figure out which one thing we’re each lying about! We’ll even make it worth your while*…

*We’ll even give you something for it. A homemade owl pin, similar to this one (only blue). Make sure to include in your comment your guess for both Sequins’ and Stripes’ lies. We’ll select a random person from the comments (regardless of your responses. Let’s be real, we’re interesting people and if we didn’t write these together it would be a total shot in the dark for us, too!) to receive the pin. This giveaway is open until Saturday, March 3rd. We’ll announce the winner next Monday, as well as what we lied about, so check back then! (And no, nothing about this post is sponsored).

PS Also, our barista attacked Stripes while we took these. Look out!

Guess away!

Sequins: The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt

In the past couple of months, I’ve gotten two free books! One was from a work seminar, about boosting your email marketing efforts, but the other was hand’s down way more exciting–I won The Scrabook of Frankie Pratt, by Caroline Preston, through the Modcloth blog! Yay! It was this post, to be exact.

Anyway, while Monsieur was taking pictures of me in honor of Whiskey Day, he noted a small little package next to my front door.

It’s so beautiful! I’d have to put it in the top five most beautiful books I have on my shelf (competitors include The Fountain and most of my Flight books). I started reading it in the car, and I just love the layout. This book instantly makes me want a typewriter more than I already did. I also have the sudden urge to go to my local antique shop and look for old photos to faux-scrapbook with….

I’m sure I’ll have more of an update when I finish reading the book! I’ll keep you all posted.

**Disclaimer: I don’t think this post needs one, but yes–the book was given to me from Modcloth. It was through a giveaway, though, and I’m under no obligation to write this post. Just felt like it, was all!
