Alright Guys…

I’m working on my final memo for the quarter. And when I say memo, I mean 8 pages of exceedingly precise and concise text that in regular writing is roughly 10 pages (how do I know? Because my memo is currently sitting pretty at 10 pages…so much editing to do!) Needless to say, I’ve been a little distracted and slightly crazy (before proof reading this sentence read as: “Needless to day, I’ve been a little distraction” yeah…lots of distraction going on over here). So. Today, I’m bringing you some things that have been getting me through my crazies.

Deca Legged Fashion Blogger At Large

Okay, so I wrote an entire introduction paragraph. It was off topic and mostly consisted of me rambling about my mom’s dogs, who I was dog sitting in these photos. Somehow wordpress ate that paragraph, though, and I’m not retyping it. Out of spite. Look, clothes!

I don’t know if you guys are keeping track, but I am–I wear a ton of red when fall hits. Not entirely sure why, but candy apple red is just my absolute favorite thing ever lately. Which makes me entirely unfashionable, since word on the street is oxblood red is the new fancy color in town. Excuse me while I gag over that name…

If you blur these photos and make them small, it doesn’t look like I’m standing next to a wall–it just looks like an epic cloud skyline. Also, it doesn’t happen very often, but every single item of clothing I’m wearing excluding the shoes (but including the tights) was either purchased used or a gift. I wore this outfit to dinner with the paternal component of my family on Friday, but it was too dark by the time I saw David so no photos. Boo. Sunday, though, we spent the entire day in sweatpants being super lazy. We had to run errands, though, and walk to the dogs, so I put my Friday outfit back on to get some outfit photos. Which is the first time I’ve put on an old outfit just for the sake of photos. Guys, I’m starting to take this whole thing too seriously. Clearly.

David has this silly habit of trying to catch photos of me when I’m not looking. I don’t really put those on the blog, but it’s the dorkiest game ever where I try to not let him see me watch him, and then he looks away and takes the photo and I change my expression at the very last second. It’s worth it to see his confusion when he reviews the photo in the screen.

The dogs’ expressions back me up on this one–there was a really weird noise to our left

Stripes: Life Happens

Oh yes, sometimes life happens and it means one of us can’t blog. Usually, however, it’s only one of us who ends up a little distracted from the blog but this week turned out to be the perfect storm for both Sequins and myself to have to take a little blog hiatus. All I can say for my side of things (don’t wanna put any words in Miss Sequins’ mouth, though I have a strong feeling she would agree with the following statement) is “whoops”.

This last week has been filled with some really great things and some less than great (but still not bad, no need to worry) things as well as my body adapting to this new grown up sleep schedule. I haven’t been on a regular wake up/go to bed routine in the least since I was in high school and even then it was spotty at best (I was the queen of before dinner naps then staying up until all hours of the night getting my homework done…sounds a lot like college but I just had to be up at 6 am every day unlike college where I usually didn’t have classes that started earlier than 10 am-thank you Poli Sci Department). But this week I’ve been trying really hard to get up at the same time everyday and go to bed around the same time everyday. Ok, it’s not that hard because I’ve been so exhausted by the time I get home from work that three days this week I have fallen asleep on top of my blankets with my make-up (once I was even wearing my running clothes because I was just about to leave for a run…true story) but I’ve started waking up about 10 minutes before my alarms go off in the mornings which has been absolutely wonderful!

Since I’m 99% sure you don’t read our blog just to hear all about my sleep schedule, as exciting as it is, I have actually been wearing clothes, despite what this mini-blogging-blackout may otherwise suggest. I’ve come to realize that, in this business casual world I’m now navigating, I only wear two types of clothes Monday through Friday: work clothes (usually nerd chic…I promise there will be pictures soon!) and sleep clothes (because once I’m home I’m not leaving unless the house is on fire). But the weekends are a totally different story-I get to wear whatever I want. I can bust out the clothes that, just a month ago, I was bored with and breathe new life into them because it’s been forever since I last wore them. I’m excited to wear my skirts, boots, dresses, t-shirts, tennis shoes, and sweatshirts. It’s awesome! And this, my friends, is my Saturday look from this week!

Can I just say it’s REALLY HARD to get good shots of yourself using self-timer and the railing of your deck? Half the pictures are literally not focused on anything and 2/3 of the rest had me making funning faces or only my face was out of focus. So please excuse the relatively low number of outfit pictures I’m going to put out here until I get used to this new set up. Things did get fun, however, when I put the camera on the steps down from the deck…

Maggie wanted to be the star of my photoshoot (or, you know, she wanted me to throw her toy for her). She’s actually been especially unphotogenic today which is strange because I have thousands of pictures of her and she always looks great. Maybe she’s having an off day? Story time!! Earlier in the day I was snuggling/rolling around on the floor with her and I went to take a picture because it was a cute moment but right when I turned my camera on her she froze and looked like a deer in headlights.

Seeeeeee? Straight from the iPhone you have it. She kept making this face every time I pulled out my phone. And yes, that is me laughing. I also think it’s great that she’s concerned with the amount of cleavage I put out in the world (hence the strategically placed paw). Such a weird (yet considerate) doggie.

Happy long weekend folks! Be safe and have fun out there and I’ll be back with a post on Tuesday!

Stripes: Looking a Little Zooey

This morning when I walked out of the bathroom (after taking forever…still trying to figure out this whole blowing out my hair with a round brush thing), I was greeted with a cheerful “Gee you look like Zooey Deschanel today,” from my family. You know what, I totally agree and there is a really good reason for this: Zooey Deschanel is awesome.

She rocks bangs (and inspired mine). She loves a-line skirts (perfect for someone with athletic thighs-like my own). She has a zillion food allergies (most of which are the same as mine…hey girl, I feel your pain/lack of pain because we take care of our organs!). She loves to sing, play guitar, and dance (all of which are fun hobbies…have I mentioned I took modern dance in college? I should totally do a modern dance photoshoot one of these days!!!). She’s a genuinely nice person (ok, this one is a little more of a guess seeing as I’ve never met her). All in all, she seems pretty dang cool person but more importantly she supports people just being themselves doing what makes them happy which has been inspiring me on my post-grad journey.

You know what makes me happy? Sunny days. Fun hair. Colorful skirts. Farmers Markets. Lunch dates with best friends. Check, check, check, check, and check. Today has been awesome and, little quiz from earlier in the post, who is also awesome? Oh, yes, Zooey Deschanel. Clearly there is a correlation: take Zooey’s advice (and bangs)–>have an awesome day.

And of course, playing with my doggie is totally on my “things that make for a great day” list (though, I think I should start calling her my production manager or director of photography because she is all up in my business while trying to take pictures).

An action shot of us while I was trying to get outfit shots. She is one persistant puppy.

Anyone else totally rocking a girl crush on Zooey? What about my doggie Maggie?! She’s a cutie but she’s all mine! 😛

Stripes: Surprises and Sunshine

Alright guys, remember how big of a deal it was when I got my side-swept bangs? Well, I’ve gone and changed things up again…I went for the full on, Zooey Deschanel-esque, whole enchilada straight across bangs. AND I LOVE THEM. Seriously.

This is my favorite hair change I think I’ve ever made (which isn’t super surprising because, as a true child of the 90’s, I rocked similar bangs up until 2000 to the point that I would cut them myself-at age 4-when my mom tried to convince me I should grow them out because I have epic cowlicks along my hairline which left me looking like a crazy Alfalfa for most of that decade). Needless to say, like both of my more recent hairstyle changes, I was shaking in the barber’s chair as I watched my locks fall.

Luckily, my stylist taught me how to blow dry the cowlicks out for the most part (I still get a small gap where one lick lies, and one chunk of hair refuses to sit totally flat no matter how much I try to flatten it…I swear my hair has a mind of it’s own) and I no longer look like a slightly ugly duckling. In fact, I think this cut actually makes me look older than any other haircut I’ve ever had just in time for job interviews and trying to convince people I really am a responsible 20-something.

As far as life goes, I’ve been slowly assimilating to my suburban surroundings and soaking up the sunshine that followed me back from the East Coast (yes, I single handedly brought the sun to the Pacific Northwest…maybe I should put that on my resume, who wouldn’t want to hire the person who controls the weather?!). My life has become a series of days spent reading, watching tv (I know I know, I didn’t used to watch much tv at all but there’s a lot less to do out here and I have about 2 friends in a 20 minute drive radius so I’m working really hard to find ways to fill my unemployed time), and hanging out with this pretty lady.

I think she has become my absolute favorite model (sorry Sequins) because she’s free to take pictures whenever I want and she never talks back…but she’s awful at taking direction. You can’t have it all, I suppose.

What’s everyone else up to this summer? How do you entertain yourself in the ‘burbs? (Does anyone even call them “the ‘burbs” or is that me?)

Stripes: A Silly Saturday!

Silly Saturday? “What’s so silly about Saturday?” you may be asking. Well let me tell ya, Sequins and I are scheming a little and while we won’t have pictures for this until Sunday at the earliest, I can promise you we are up to something absolutely silly. Since I can’t magically make the pictures from our yet to happen silly shenanigans appear from the future I thought I would send you some other silliness. Without further adieu, I present you with silliness:

There you have it, a post filled with giggles [I hope…I laughed anyways]. Please, if you have any other silly things on the interwebs, link them to us in the comments! We love a good chuckle around here. And pictures of our Silly Saturday Shenanigans will be up…soon…

Sequins: A Special Guest Blogger

Hey guys! We both are super stoked to introduce this new guest blogger, Lyra (pronounced leer-ah)! She’s a pretty chill, down-to-earth chick and is the kind of friend you go to whenever you need a hug. And, you know, she’ll never say no to a cookie! We figured we’d set this guest post up interview-style, so enjoy!

Hey Lyra, thanks so much for agreeing to do this interview! So why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself? What kinds of things do you like to do?

Hey, yeah I’m really glad to be here! I love Sequins, so when she asked if I’d guest post I was totally excited! Her and I go way back–she’s known me even before I was born! So, about me… I live with my mom, who’s totally my best friend, a couple of cats, and a turtle. They’re all pretty chill. When I’m not sleeping, I love rolling around in the backyard, poking the cats, and having my picture taken!

Aww, I love you too! And man that sounds like a ton of fun. How would you describe your life philosophy?

I think my life philosophy can be summed up pretty easy–life can be hard, and it can get you down, but you just have to remember how beautiful it all is. You have to remember to smile.

That’s a great life philosophy. You’re such a positive one! How would you spend the perfect day?

I like to get up fairly early in the morning, so a fresh quick start out the door for a romp with my friends in the back yard, then after a breakfast I’d love to nap in the sun for a bit. I’d probably fill my day with a long walk and some duck chasing, then wrestling around with my mom until I’m worn out. I’d finish the perfect day off with some cuddle time on the couch and some snacking on cheesey or bbq-ey chips! Yum! Oh, and the day would be even better if my brother, Bandit, was in town visiting! He usually stops by once a year or so.

Definitely not a bad day! One last question before I let you head out the door for a walk–what’s one secret that we wouldn’t have guessed about you?

One thing you can’t guess? Jeez, I’m a pretty open book! I guess I’d have to say I’m a romantic at heart–I love everyone, and will always give out hugs to people who need it. I’ll even bring you flowers!
