Sequins: The Ups and Downs of Pet Ownership

I don’t really intend to turn into the ratta version of the crazy cat lady fashion blogger, which is why you haven’t heard a whole lot about Monsieur and I’s foray into pet ownership. Also, though, about two weeks after we took the plunge, we got to deal with the downs of pet ownership–we lost one of them.

Not as in, we misplaced one of our rattas, but unfortunately Grendel turned out to have some horrible uterine tumor and she died. She was definitely a tiny little runt of a thing, and her Rex whiskers, Dumbo ears and lack of hair definitely proved that she was all about those recessive genes. Talk about getting the short end of the stick…

After watching Harper mourn her littermate for a few days, our hearts couldn’t take it and we went back to the petstore to see if any of her sisters were still left. There was, and after some deliberation and discussion (wherein Monsieur utilized his big ol’ puppy eyes, pleading the new rat’s case like I’ve never seen before), we took Harper’s sister home. We were worried about how well she’d adjust to having a new rat to share her space with, but our worries were for naught–they’ve spent 99% of the time glued to the hip. They’re adorable and it was exactly what Harper needed. So without further ado,

Harper left, Gibson right

I tried to get a solo shot of Gibson, but remember when I said they’re inseparable? Wasn’t exaggerating! They’re pretty adorable, and it was a good decision. We still definitely miss our goofy Grendel, though. It was definitely lame, losing her right when she was getting really brave and friendly with us.

better believe she’d do anything for a piece of pasta

Stripes: A Very Special Model

As I hinted on Twitter this morning, I am spending a couple days back in my home town. As Sequins and I realized we did not yet have a good Monday post for everyone I realized I have a special model I could introduce you all to…annnd her name is Maggie. Say hello to my doggie!

She was the first “person” I explored the art of the Myspace picture with. (Aren’t we cute?! This is from all the way back in 2008.)

And she pulls off the blogger-casually-looking-off-into-the-distance thing so well!

And without further adieu, here’s the exclusive interview:

Me: So, tell me about your day.

Maggie: Can’t complain, took a nap, ran around, spread some love, then took another nap.

Me: Sounds like an excellent day. What do you think about the colored jeans trend?

M: Well, I’m colorblind so you had me fooled. Also, I prefer a more au naturale look but if you can pull ’em off do it girl!

Me: What’s your favorite store?

M: Oh you know, I am more of a vintage kind of girl, and my personal shopper only goes to this obscure little store in this town you’ve never heard of.

Me: What’s your favorite food?

F: I’m on a special diet, gotta maintain my womanly figure, so I usually just eat the same well balanced meal whenever I’m hungry. Although I do like to indulge on a cookie every once in a while, too. A girl’s gotta live a little!

Me: If you could meet any one blogger, who would it be?

M: That’s such a tough question…hmmm I guess I would have to say the people at wannasmile.com, I really like their work.

Me: Well, it’s been great chatting with you but it looks like we’re out of time.

M: Yep, it’s time to run off to my scheduled nap.

And there you have it, an exclusive interview with the one and only Maggie…aka my puppy! It’s so nice being home for a little bit.

Happy Monday from me and my doggie!

Stripes: Awesome Stuff Sunday 3.11

Welcome to Awesome Stuff Sunday! Here are some of the cool things I found on the internet this week!

I am SO stinking in love with her dress!

OMG this is my favorite kitty picture since the kitty flying through space on a synth.

Sequins and I made this scrub for a much needed girls night, ahhh so relaxing!

This is a really interesting look into food allergies. I really appreciate her big picture view of the current, dramatic rise in allergies. Also, I think there is a lot we could be doing as a nation to improve the quality of our food and help our children avoid some of the health pitfalls we face today.

And a classic Death Cab for Cutie song.

Have a happy Sunday!

Stripes: Awesome Stuff Sunday 3.4

I found this on Yes and Yes this week and OMG I want to do this! Bring on the InDesign while I can still use it on campus for free!

And then there’s this guy! Soooo cute! Sequins posted this link of 26 Happy Animals to Plaid’s wall for her birthday. This is why we are friends.

This is seriously the motto of a person with allergy’s life. I found this (via) and it clicked. Sometimes it is hard to remember in such simple terms how simple it is to choose health.

Admittedly NSFW but soooo funny. I wanna bust out some landshark!

And, finally, one of my favorite songs. It plays all the time at work and I always swoon when it comes on 😀

Happy Sunday!

Stripes: Awesome Stuff Sunday 2.26

Happy Friday All! Here are some of my highlights from my time on the internet this week:

Who can say no to a series of sloths? Check more out here!

This is one of the best blogs I’ve found in a long while…I have subconsciously been transitioning to these adulting ideas for the last couple of years so it is hilarious to read someone else’s take on them!

DIY tea towels…she had me sold with the Martha paint!

I’m itching to try out this recipe! Gluten, egg, yeast, dairy, and peanut free cookies; what more could a girl ask for!?

And as we all have probably figured out, I love dance music and this is one of the funniest spoofs of this video I have ever seen.

Have a happy week!

Stripes: Awesome Stuff Sunday 2.19

I hope everyone’s weeks have been fabulous. Here are some things that I came across that are particularly awesome and felt like I should share…enjoy!

An easy how-to pastel your hair from Oh So Pretty! I’ve been considering adding some bright colors but this is was less expensive [and permanent] than dye.

If you like this underwater dog, you should follow this link to see the whole collection!

I’m really itching to sing a similar arrgangement of this…we’ll see if it’s in the cards for spring.

I don’t usually like Cracked.com’s articles too terribly much but I thought this one on what won’t make you happy in life was extremely well thought out. And as a bonus, they include a list of what really does, scientifically speaking, make you feel happy. (once again, I am a sucker for cute animals :P).

Ok, so I’d be lying if I said that Eric Whitacre’s virtual choir was new to me BUT he has been such a part of my week that I want to support his unqiue project by spreading the word. The most recent virtual choir submissions were due this last week or two (?) but I’m sure there will be more opportunities in the near future. For news, check out his facebook page!

Thanks for reading- I hope everyone has an awesome new week!

Stripes: Sunday’s Favorite Things 2.12

As I’ve been working on my music posts I have realized that I don’t actually listen to as much music as it seemed like I did. So, in order to keep Sunday’s interesting, I’m going to try to do a weekly “favorites” post filled with the coolest things that came my way each week including pinterest, music, other blogs, new articles, and whatever else the internet has to offer. Hope you enjoy!

I love Cori’s (from La Vie Petite) outfit.

I’m really glad Sequins showed me this fellow Gap jeans loving blogger!

I am really excited to make a set of these dishes!

I LOVE Ellen and I don’t think anyone could have said all this better than she did.

One thing I’m not sure I’ve properly conveyed this far into the blog is how much I adore cute animal pictures…I am such a sucker for animals in precarious situations.

Here’s some Nickel Creek to chill out with on this lovely Sunday afternoon. Also, sorry the video’s images are kind of lame, the official music video had really bad sound quality so I had to go with this guy instead.

The Titanic 3D website has been released…savor the soundtrack! Cause it’s not like I listened to it the whole time I wrote this post or anything.

Thanks for reading; I hope everyone has a great Monday!
