Remixed to Perfection

Talking about clothing and outfits feels a little empty after the events of the weekend. I’ve written more about my views on everything on my other blog, so if you need to stay in that moment and reflect some more, I respect that. I also know that there are a lot of good people out there who eventually need a break from the heavy, and that’s what this post is about.

Marci 12-15-12 Face

I’ve ignored this dress for a long time, mostly because I couldn’t figure out a way to wear it without hating it. I knew it existed–I just hadn’t found it yet. The shape is tricky around my midsection which is less a problem about looking bad and more about feeling frumpy. Also? Orange, brown & cream? difficult colors to add to.

Sweater & Tights: Target | Dress: Sojourner | Shoes: Thrifted | Coat: H&M

I found this dress on massive sale at a little boutique up in Bellingham, but I know it was on Modcloth for a while. I tried to find it for you, but with no luck. You’re free to try on your own, though. Those birds are wearing neck ties, fancy hats and monocles, so I’m not sure what print could possibly be better.

Marci 12-15-12 Coat

This coat is meant for spring, but it’s meant for springs that are dryer than the ones we have so I usually wear it in winter–the closest thing we have to ad ry season. I have to layer it extra or I freeze, and today was definitely a day that required more layers I had. All in all, though, my outfit felt super successful. Remember kids–adding color is always the right option.

Slushie Madness

My mom and I agreed that getting Arctic Frosts from Dairy Queen was going to be essential to our well-being during our errands run on Friday. She’s never insisted on her own before and usually we share mine, but this time was different. This time she had a craving.

Sweater: Kohls | Shirt: Zara’s (Thrifted) | Skirt: H&M | Tights: Target | Shoes: B.A.I.T

Pretty much five seconds after we had them in hand, she realized (with my prompting, that she actually wanted a slurpee from 7-11. I don’t know about you guys, but those slurpees are like my favorite comfort treat ever. It’s like candy flavored ice foam. Ridiculousness.

Since this was a day off, I opted for lots of color. So much blue color I even matched my drink, because that’s how dedicated I am. Also, please note the hair. I think this is my first good hair day on the blog in weeks. These shots don’t quite show it off, but it’s getting spiky in the back.

Sequins: Peaches & Lavender

Sounds yummy, doesn’t it? True story–my mom is a really (really really) big fan of lavender, and there is a beautiful (and delicious) Lavender Festival held on one of the nearby islands. It’s a fun camping trip, and the festival has everything lavender that you can imagine. Including lavender ice cream, lavender cookies, lavender coffee. It’s a bit overwhelming to most but the die-hard fans, but I still like to taste. Same goes with peaches. My uncle, who is from Texas, calls me Peaches and it’s my favorite nickname. And between you and me, I haveĀ  a lot of nicknames...

But this isn’t really about food. It wasn’t supposed to be, that is. It was supposed to be about my new color obsession, ever since seeing my lavender-painted toenails paired with these sandals. I was obsessed with the mix for the better part of the day, so it surprised no one (and by no one, I of course mean Monsieur & Stripes) when I wore the same colors the next day.

Sweater: Thrifted/ Dress: Macy’s/ Tights: Gift, Macys/ Shoes: BC Shoes/ Necklace: Mi Shoes

What, one note wonder, you say? Whatever. This dress, by the way, was a whoppin’ 75% off. Very excited. It needed a minor adjustment, which I’ve made, and I love it. There are birds on it–I rest my case. This dress is also the result of shopping with my sister. She was in town a couple weekends ago and we went a little crazy shopping at the mall–which is something I pretty much never do. It was a blast and resulted in this dress, the yellow jacket and blue shirt you’ve already seen, and a beautiful black strapless dress. All on sale, which is the only way to shop. My sister is a dangerous girl to shop with.

Also dangerous, apparently, is Stripes! Do you see those shoes? If they look familiar, but you’er wondering if I just over-brightened the photo to wash out the red and white stripes, worry no longer.

Stripes bought sandals and I bought these–the twin sisters of my favorite red & white striped wedges, in a beautiful neutral tan. I love them. Monsieur loves them even more than their twins, which is strange (he’s partial to the flashier elements of my wardrobe).

The necklace is from the same place as the shoes, albeit purchased on a separate occasion. My coworker wears the most gorgeous, unique necklaces that I covet. But not really, since I’m not someone brave enough to wear large, chunky necklaces (that don’t feature an animal of some sort). Until this day, that is. I’m still working it in, but it’s a fun experiment. I think it’ll go well with the aforementioned strapless black dress.

How about all you quiet lurkers out there? Any chunky-necklace-phobias? Twin-shoe-purchasers? Food-related-color-obsessers?
