Pumpkin Carving Time

Last night was the night, folks, I finally got to cut into my pumpkin and give him the face he’s always wanted! Ok…I doubt any pumpkin would go for a slightly sad, Edward Cullen-esque basic vampire face, but it’s what my pumpkin got. And, to think, people wonder why I never pursued a career in plastic surgery.

The Before

The After

Since this was the third anual pumpkin party Kim and I threw, here’s a little retrospective of the pumpkin-awesomeness we’ve created over the years!

Year one…we forgot to take pictures together with our pumpkins sooo here’s what we pulled together for that year.

Side note, I voluneteered to be the sober on this year, I have no idea why I couldn’t keep my eyes open even if my life depended on it…

Year 2

We realized our mistake from the year before and took a million pictures together-this was my favorite!

Annnnd year three!

Why yes, if you had guessed that these were our pumpkin faces you would be 100% correct about how we managed to pull off such an awesome picture. Also, I’m pretty dang sure that holding an lit pumpkin was one of the ballsiest things I’ve done in a while…so much flamage…right there…next to my torso…FIRE!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween & a happy Sunday!

Days Like This

As promised in my last post, Marci and I had quite the little meetup/coffee date/photo shoot in Seattle this last weekend and boy did I miss her (and her fancy pants camera). We had fun, sipping coffee, catching up, and being slightly vain while posing on a bunch of rocks.

It’s strange how different life feels being removed from our little college town. I really miss having meet ups like this with friends, bumping into people I know all the time, and spontaneity in general. I realize that I spent a huge portion of college yearning for some semblance of routine but now that my life is all routine I miss the fluidity, flexibility, and occasional chaotic moments.

Despite how much I miss my old lifestyle, however, I have found some serious benefits to this new big girl era-benefits that make me remember how awesome growing up is. For example, being able to go on trips whenever I want (ok, on weekends or with my VACATION TIME…oh heck yes I can get paid to have fun). Or getting to buy cute new clothes on a whim (and shoes…eh, eh! Check these babies out…just got them at Target for $30-Uhhhhmazing). And for finally being able to plan for some big life changes that I think will bring full-on happiness to every corner of my life.

But at the end of the day, I feel especially glad that I can always have a coffee date with and old friend, catch up, and take photos just like we’re back in our old, college town ways soaking up the nostalgia. Although most parts of me are moving, fast-forward, toward the future, there will always be some bits and pieces craving and appreciating these moments of old school bliss and, for that, I’m glad for days like this.

Stripes: Life Happens

Oh yes, sometimes life happens and it means one of us can’t blog. Usually, however, it’s only one of us who ends up a little distracted from the blog but this week turned out to be the perfect storm for both Sequins and myself to have to take a little blog hiatus. All I can say for my side of things (don’t wanna put any words in Miss Sequins’ mouth, though I have a strong feeling she would agree with the following statement) is “whoops”.

This last week has been filled with some really great things and some less than great (but still not bad, no need to worry) things as well as my body adapting to this new grown up sleep schedule. I haven’t been on a regular wake up/go to bed routine in the least since I was in high school and even then it was spotty at best (I was the queen of before dinner naps then staying up until all hours of the night getting my homework done…sounds a lot like college but I just had to be up at 6 am every day unlike college where I usually didn’t have classes that started earlier than 10 am-thank you Poli Sci Department). But this week I’ve been trying really hard to get up at the same time everyday and go to bed around the same time everyday. Ok, it’s not that hard because I’ve been so exhausted by the time I get home from work that three days this week I have fallen asleep on top of my blankets with my make-up (once I was even wearing my running clothes because I was just about to leave for a run…true story) but I’ve started waking up about 10 minutes before my alarms go off in the mornings which has been absolutely wonderful!

Since I’m 99% sure you don’t read our blog just to hear all about my sleep schedule, as exciting as it is, I have actually been wearing clothes, despite what this mini-blogging-blackout may otherwise suggest. I’ve come to realize that, in this business casual world I’m now navigating, I only wear two types of clothes Monday through Friday: work clothes (usually nerd chic…I promise there will be pictures soon!) and sleep clothes (because once I’m home I’m not leaving unless the house is on fire). But the weekends are a totally different story-I get to wear whatever I want. I can bust out the clothes that, just a month ago, I was bored with and breathe new life into them because it’s been forever since I last wore them. I’m excited to wear my skirts, boots, dresses, t-shirts, tennis shoes, and sweatshirts. It’s awesome! And this, my friends, is my Saturday look from this week!

Can I just say it’s REALLY HARD to get good shots of yourself using self-timer and the railing of your deck? Half the pictures are literally not focused on anything and 2/3 of the rest had me making funning faces or only my face was out of focus. So please excuse the relatively low number of outfit pictures I’m going to put out here until I get used to this new set up. Things did get fun, however, when I put the camera on the steps down from the deck…

Maggie wanted to be the star of my photoshoot (or, you know, she wanted me to throw her toy for her). She’s actually been especially unphotogenic today which is strange because I have thousands of pictures of her and she always looks great. Maybe she’s having an off day? Story time!! Earlier in the day I was snuggling/rolling around on the floor with her and I went to take a picture because it was a cute moment but right when I turned my camera on her she froze and looked like a deer in headlights.

Seeeeeee? Straight from the iPhone you have it. She kept making this face every time I pulled out my phone. And yes, that is me laughing. I also think it’s great that she’s concerned with the amount of cleavage I put out in the world (hence the strategically placed paw). Such a weird (yet considerate) doggie.

Happy long weekend folks! Be safe and have fun out there and I’ll be back with a post on Tuesday!

Stripes: Surprises and Sunshine

Alright guys, remember how big of a deal it was when I got my side-swept bangs? Well, I’ve gone and changed things up again…I went for the full on, Zooey Deschanel-esque, whole enchilada straight across bangs. AND I LOVE THEM. Seriously.

This is my favorite hair change I think I’ve ever made (which isn’t super surprising because, as a true child of the 90’s, I rocked similar bangs up until 2000 to the point that I would cut them myself-at age 4-when my mom tried to convince me I should grow them out because I have epic cowlicks along my hairline which left me looking like a crazy Alfalfa for most of that decade). Needless to say, like both of my more recent hairstyle changes, I was shaking in the barber’s chair as I watched my locks fall.

Luckily, my stylist taught me how to blow dry the cowlicks out for the most part (I still get a small gap where one lick lies, and one chunk of hair refuses to sit totally flat no matter how much I try to flatten it…I swear my hair has a mind of it’s own) and I no longer look like a slightly ugly duckling. In fact, I think this cut actually makes me look older than any other haircut I’ve ever had just in time for job interviews and trying to convince people I really am a responsible 20-something.

As far as life goes, I’ve been slowly assimilating to my suburban surroundings and soaking up the sunshine that followed me back from the East Coast (yes, I single handedly brought the sun to the Pacific Northwest…maybe I should put that on my resume, who wouldn’t want to hire the person who controls the weather?!). My life has become a series of days spent reading, watching tv (I know I know, I didn’t used to watch much tv at all but there’s a lot less to do out here and I have about 2 friends in a 20 minute drive radius so I’m working really hard to find ways to fill my unemployed time), and hanging out with this pretty lady.

I think she has become my absolute favorite model (sorry Sequins) because she’s free to take pictures whenever I want and she never talks back…but she’s awful at taking direction. You can’t have it all, I suppose.

What’s everyone else up to this summer? How do you entertain yourself in the ‘burbs? (Does anyone even call them “the ‘burbs” or is that me?)

Stripes: Disney Fashion Time

Ooo boy! We finally made it to the Florida leg of my travels and I have a very Minnie Mouse inspired outfit post for you!

Isn’t the Epcot Ball pretty epic? This was a pretty exciting moment, I’ve been dreaming of this moment, standing infront of the giant golf ball, since I can remember-I mean who thinks of Disney World without thinking about the ball? I was sorely disappointed to realize the tour of the nations wasn’t actually in the ball nor was some sort of epic 70’s-esque model of “The Future”. My dreams, apparently, were a little too farfetched to fit in a giant golfball…who woulda thunk?

As far as my theme park fashion went, I stuck mainly to shorts (better for rides), tank tops (to avoid the dreaded farmers tan), Toms (comfy shoes…though, thanks to the heat/foot sweatage situation, I got blisters on almost all of my toes that I’m still working on getting rid of. Yay! TMI blogger moment! But seriously, shoes that don’t require socks sounded awesome in theory but in execution they tore up my feet), and Minnie ears. Oh yes, I wore these babies every single day at all the Disney parks (seemed like bad form to wear to Universal Studios…though I totally wore my Harry Potter shirt to Disney at which point a guy running one of the rides claimed to be Slytherin and tried to Avada Kedavra us…we Crucio’d back and got away). I certainly was *that* person and I soaked up every themed minute of it.

Later that day, a phone booth tried to kidnap me! Epcot was an awesome park and it was second only to Magic Kingdom in my mind. There was so much to see and I loved the future theme! Also, I’m going to do a quick plug for my little backpack. This thing saved us and was the perfect bag for this trip! It’s just a little REI day pack I bought a couple years back to hold one of those Camelpack water bladders for a day hike and exploring bat caves (to my NW friends- it was Oyster Dome…that hike always kicks my butt in a way that makes me wanna cry a little but exploring the bat caves is seriously one of my favorite memories from college). This pack held both of our water bottles, snacks, cellphones, and sunglasses without getting the least bit heavy. And, just about every mom was jealously eyeballing it. So, if you’re planning a Disney trip in the near future, I would totally recommend bringing one of these bags since they let you bring in food and drink with no issues. This was the closest I could find to the one I have-I bought my bladder and bag separate and the bag was REI brand (it was discontinued and the last one in the store…and about $30 cheaper than the next best option at the time) but I think this set is actually cheaper than what my total ended up being buying them separately…so awesome for you if you decide you want to invest in one!

And we happened to find Mary Poppins in England(-land?). SO jealous of her getup! Can we please bring back fancy dresses and epic hats like this?! Seriously.

What’s everyone’s favorite Disney park? Anyone else done Oyster Dome? Was your butt handed to you or was that just me (probably just me…walking up hill is just about my least favorite activity)?
