Last Minute Errands

Marci 12-6-12 Top

I spent Thursday running errands with my mom. What started as a breakfast date turned into an all-day around-the-town errand running. I’m hosting a fun thing on Saturday for Kim and Kelsey, our annual Orphan Christmas which you’ll get to hear all about soon enough. Hosting means making sure my apartment isn’t gross and that there’s food stocked. It also means, apparently, lots of errands. Or maybe that’s just because I’ve postponed grocery shopping for a while. It’s anyone’s guess, really. All of it is worth it, though, since it’s been way too long since I’ve gotten to hang out with those lovely ladies!

Kels did a fun post about treating yourself nicely with your favorite clothes, and I have to completely agree. It’s super predictable, but I’m so drawn to bold, bright colorful clothes on my days off! And patterns! Oh lord, the patterns! I feel like it’s been a while since I pulled this vest out of the corner of my closet, but it was so worth the wait! This whole outfit is one my new favorites, but I know I say that a lot.

What are your favorite go-to outfits? Bright and bold? Subdued and classic?

A Bloggable Playdate

My really good friend Violet, who blogs over at List Love Laugh, is pretty awesome. She’s awesome enough to do all of the driving in our friendship. Okay, I mean, sometimes she gets her husband to do it, but point is, she makes our friendship sustain itself even though she lives multiple hours of driving away. I’m lucky. Also, I’m lucky that she was restless and wanted to visit my cool neck of the woods, which has way more bookstores than hers. I love how well she knows me, because she included in her offer of a play date to take my outfit photos for the blog. Like I said, I’m lucky.

I way over thought this outfit, but what else are you going to do when someone specifically offers to drive for hours and take your photo? The good news, I wore this skirt. I’ve had this skirt forever. I love it. It’s comfortable. It always fits. I have no idea what tops I should wear with it. I have even less of an idea about tight colors for it. Something about the length.

I shared more of the details of our actual adventure on the ol’ other blog, but this was my outfit. Comfortable, coped with the rainy weather well, and finally got to pull off the best and most impossible skirt ever. Thanks again Vi for a really great day!

Instant Fashion Blogging Costume

When I went to run errands on Halloween with my mom, I knew I’d feel like a total lame-o if I didn’t dress up at least a little. No offense to the non-costume types out there, it’s a personal choice. I dig.

This was my insta-celebrity. Just a dash of Aubrey Hepburn, coupled with a bit of sass. I know the real fashion bloggers of the world are probably shaking their head in the stark disapproval my lack of any designer anything while portraying a celebrity, but what can ya do? Me, I’ll stick to my boyfriend’s pea coat and my thrifted dress, thank you!

I actually can’t wait to get a real shot of me wearing this dress–I’m totally in love with it! My mom picked it out when we were thrifting a little bit ago. She knows me so well.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Snow & Red’s Lovechild

So this past week I somehow found myself super sucked into Once Upon A Time since the entire first season is on Netflix. There are two characters, Snow & Red, whose non-magical counterparts Mary Margaret and Ruby are pretty awesome. They’re on the top list of favorites because they’re both pretty bad ass characters who can take care of themselves. I got dressed in this outfit and felt a lot like Mary Margaret, who dresses in super twee-tastic cute clothing, but there was too much red in my ensemble to deny.

This outfit belongs to the love child of Mary Margaret and Ruby, once they realize that boys are so lame and not the way to go.

Cape, Shirt & Vest: Thrifted | Hat & Jeans: Gifts | Flower: H&M | Bag: AlphabetBags.com | Shoes: B.A.I.T

Oh and in honor of Kels’ post yesterday, yes, these are the jeggings she so hardcore mocked back in the day. I’ve mentioned it before, but they were a gift from a woman I tutored in English. They are also the “jeans” I mentioned needed replacing because of a hole on the tuckus region. Fortunately the shirt covered the hole and also skinny jeans are the way to go.

So anyone else a fan of the show? Or is this post just the most randomly nonsense thing ever? It’s not. I promise. I’ve written way more nonsensical posts than this one. Also, if you do watch the show, I’ve only watched season one. I haven’t seen anything of season two so no spoilers in the comments or I’ll consider you the biggest meanie ever! Ant hat, guys, would be like the most tragic thing ever.

Sequins: A Realy Good Morning

This doesn’t have a whole lot anything at all to do with my outfit, but it’s what I’m thinking about.

This morning was pretty awesome.

Nothing huge happened–no life changing decisions or amazing elaborate plans. Monsieur and I didn’t even have our usual hour to read and sip coffee together, which we usually try to fit in. It was a little rushed, and we spent most of the morning in separate rooms getting ready. But it was one of the best mornings because we talked the whole time.

We were silly and we sang harmonies to a couple of songs that have been stuck in our heads lately. He’s been learning a couple Bowie songs on the guitar, and he’s been listening to the Space Oddity album a bunch lately. Which means we’ve both been singing the Space Oddity song non-stop. This morning we kept singing it to each other as we putzed around in different rooms getting ready.

Then we switched over to Hooked On A Feeling and all heck broke loose. Do you guys remember that song? It’s impossible to not act super silly singing that song. We used to get in his 1984 Subaru and blast it on his pitiful speakers, banging on the sides of his car whenever it’d get to that drum beat. Good times, ya’ll.

This morning we pretty much pretended we didn’t live on the top floor of our apartment building and stomped our feet and sang at the top of our lungs and reminisced about the silly college years.

And then he packed my lunch for me and drove me to work since he was already heading out. Such a fella, I tell ya’.

Sequins: Walking A Fine Line

The one thing I really, really took away from the 30 for 30 is that I have boring shoes. It’s sad, but it’s true. I’ve been noticing it more and more, so I’ve been trying to fix it a little bit. Also, though? I’m not someone who wears heels. Like, ever. It just doesn’t work. I walk to work, I bike everywhere, and I don’t have the patience required to lug around a spare pair of shoes for those activities.

So, when a different fashion blogger mentioned that she had to wear wedges instead of heels so she could bike to work, it frankly blew my mind.

“You can bike in wedges?”

I’ll admit, I was a skeptic. It sounded too good to be true. But, if you think about it–it makes a certain level of sense. I mean, it’s a flat bottomed shoe, so it should be fine. Should.

Is it fine yet? I’ll admit it–I love these shoes with the same force that they scare the crap out of me! They’re gorgeous, they’re fun, they match so much in my wardrobe. Also, they’re scary as hell!I don’t know how it happened, but I’ve just lost my ability to stand and walk in heels. I loose all dignity walking down stairs–I look exactly like a baby giraffe. A drunk baby giraffe.

But I put them on in the morning and twirled for Monsieur.

“You’re going to want a ride to work, aren’t you?”

I nodded, my head bent in shame.

“But I can ride my bike home!”

He looked at me, skepticism filling his eyes, and I know we both flashed to an identical image of me sitting on my overturned bike, crying pitifully as I call him for a rescue at the top of a hill (have I mentioned my bike ride home is entirely full of hills?).

“Kay. But I’ll have the car ready, just in case you need a ride home.”

He’s a keeper, that one.

Success was mine! Turns out that riding a bike in wedges is way, way way easier than walking in them. I made it home with slightly sore feet, but mostly sore from walking. I didn’t slip on the peddles or anything. Watch out, wardrobe, you’re about to get a whole lot taller…

If I don’t break my neck first.

Sequins 30 for 30 Golden Twenty Something Age

There’s something kind of amazing about being a twenty something in a small town. Every now and then, the stars line up right and you get to do some really fun things. One of our (fabulous but incredibly flaky) friends was celebrating his birthday, so we bought over some fruit, hummus, pita chips, cheese plate, and a bottle of cake (Three Olive’s “Cake” flavored Vodka. Seriously, cross my heart, it tasted like funfetti that had vodka poured into it. Crazy weird) and had a ton of fun.

I know I definitely partied it up a bit in college, and there’s this fine balance that everyone seems to need a few years to figure out about how to have fun drinking without going overboard, and this was a party where everyone there was in a good rhythm. There were the classic throw backs like beer pong, but there was actual ping pong, too. There was drunk kayaking, there was a pinata, there was a barbeque full of ribs, there was some strange frisbee jousting, night-time hackey-sacking and croquet. All of this took place on their lake-side lawn, which framed the most beautiful sunset.

Um so do you see the chicken? Because the best part were definitely the chickens! They have five of them, and they’re just past their awkward, haven’t-finished-changing-all-the-feathers-yet stage, so they had these great little pigeon-sized bodies just full of super soft feathers. I know I’ve posted about my lack of love towards the avian population, but I’ve always secretly wanted chickens. And I think these guys may have helped convince Monsieur that we need chickens…

I was bonding pretty hard core with this chicken. We watched the sunset together.

Oh and I guess I can show you guys what I wore. For the record (since you’ve already got a pretty good look), this was one of those days where I wasn’t so much thinking about putting together an outfit, as I was grabbing all my favorite pieces, and this is the outfit that occurred. I was a big fan, though. It was super fun!
