Hello New Glasses

Marci 11-19-12 new glasses

Okay so they’re not new, exactly. In fact, I’ve had them exactly as long as I’ve hold my other super hipster pair. However this photograph shows off the second time I’ve ever worn them in public. So, hello new glasses. I don’t have a whole lot to say about this outfit except it’s buit of pieces I absolutely love.

That neon tank is the most unremixable thing in my wardrobe but I’ll be damned if I don’t sleep in it a lot just to have an excuse to wear it. Similar thing with the tshirt, since I don’t wear them out a whole lot. The pants, well, I’m forcing myself to wear them because I love them even if I’m always in them for work, and those polka dot shoes are thing I refuse to throw away despite their matching holes. My sister says that hat makes me look like Link and I’m honestly not sure if she meant that as a reason for or against me wearing it, but it just makes me want to wear it more. Especially if I skipped a shower. If you’re curious about the hand on mouth thing, I’ll refer you to this post. If you’re curious about the wacky handwriting, I’ll refer you to the fact that I am amazing at using my laptop touch pad in Gimp to handwrite text. I plan on doing it more and more, so prepare yourselves.

Snow & Red’s Lovechild

So this past week I somehow found myself super sucked into Once Upon A Time since the entire first season is on Netflix. There are two characters, Snow & Red, whose non-magical counterparts Mary Margaret and Ruby are pretty awesome. They’re on the top list of favorites because they’re both pretty bad ass characters who can take care of themselves. I got dressed in this outfit and felt a lot like Mary Margaret, who dresses in super twee-tastic cute clothing, but there was too much red in my ensemble to deny.

This outfit belongs to the love child of Mary Margaret and Ruby, once they realize that boys are so lame and not the way to go.

Cape, Shirt & Vest: Thrifted | Hat & Jeans: Gifts | Flower: H&M | Bag: AlphabetBags.com | Shoes: B.A.I.T

Oh and in honor of Kels’ post yesterday, yes, these are the jeggings she so hardcore mocked back in the day. I’ve mentioned it before, but they were a gift from a woman I tutored in English. They are also the “jeans” I mentioned needed replacing because of a hole on the tuckus region. Fortunately the shirt covered the hole and also skinny jeans are the way to go.

So anyone else a fan of the show? Or is this post just the most randomly nonsense thing ever? It’s not. I promise. I’ve written way more nonsensical posts than this one. Also, if you do watch the show, I’ve only watched season one. I haven’t seen anything of season two so no spoilers in the comments or I’ll consider you the biggest meanie ever! Ant hat, guys, would be like the most tragic thing ever.

Sequins 30 for 30 Golden Twenty Something Age

There’s something kind of amazing about being a twenty something in a small town. Every now and then, the stars line up right and you get to do some really fun things. One of our (fabulous but incredibly flaky) friends was celebrating his birthday, so we bought over some fruit, hummus, pita chips, cheese plate, and a bottle of cake (Three Olive’s “Cake” flavored Vodka. Seriously, cross my heart, it tasted like funfetti that had vodka poured into it. Crazy weird) and had a ton of fun.

I know I definitely partied it up a bit in college, and there’s this fine balance that everyone seems to need a few years to figure out about how to have fun drinking without going overboard, and this was a party where everyone there was in a good rhythm. There were the classic throw backs like beer pong, but there was actual ping pong, too. There was drunk kayaking, there was a pinata, there was a barbeque full of ribs, there was some strange frisbee jousting, night-time hackey-sacking and croquet. All of this took place on their lake-side lawn, which framed the most beautiful sunset.

Um so do you see the chicken? Because the best part were definitely the chickens! They have five of them, and they’re just past their awkward, haven’t-finished-changing-all-the-feathers-yet stage, so they had these great little pigeon-sized bodies just full of super soft feathers. I know I’ve posted about my lack of love towards the avian population, but I’ve always secretly wanted chickens. And I think these guys may have helped convince Monsieur that we need chickens…

I was bonding pretty hard core with this chicken. We watched the sunset together.

Oh and I guess I can show you guys what I wore. For the record (since you’ve already got a pretty good look), this was one of those days where I wasn’t so much thinking about putting together an outfit, as I was grabbing all my favorite pieces, and this is the outfit that occurred. I was a big fan, though. It was super fun!

Sequins & Stripes: The Orphan Christmas

Stripes, Plaid and I are on our second year of celebrating Orphan Christmas. For sure, none of us are actual orphans, but this is how we celebrate before Christmas with our respective families, to kick things off if you shall. This is a bit of a dual-post, so Sequins is commenting in the standard text, and Stripes in commenting in italics. Enjoy!

We decorated Plaid’s miniature plastic tree, Timmy, along with the tree Stripes and Plaid picked out, Dougal. We spend the whole evening eating Christmas food, decorating the trees, and crafting it up. I’ll show you guys what I made later on, because it was pretty spectacular.

The whole process gets a little silly. Yeah…this lift was a last minute decision but as you may be able to tell, I am actually lower than if I had stood. But hey! Anything I’ll do anything for a silly picture!

This picture reveals a truth that hasn’t cropped up before now on the blog before now–Stripes and I are total hipsters. And these are our hipster faces, posing with our hipster angels (they had a tags on them that said they might cause birth defects. I have no idea why we still have them…). It’s really because we were, like, the first people to have them. And we understand some people wouldn’t keep them but really we’ve just always put them on our shared holiday tree.

Even Stripes’ Halloween cat was in the festive spirit. That’s Oliver! I LOVE him! I got him right before Halloween and vowed to decorate him for every holiday. We skipped Thanksgiving because I was in the process of moving but he will for sure make several cameos in the future.

Stripes insisted that I needed to be more festive, as well. Only because you weren’t as infected with holiday cheer as Plaid and myself. And despite the face she’s making I think she found joy amidst our silliness. And you know wearing ornaments is totally en vogue…according to Oliver, anyways.

Stripes was pretty into the whole thing. We also did presents, and that was where Stripes and I unleashed our Pinterest fury, starting with the wrapping and all the way down to the gifts themselves.

Stripes decorated her gifts pretty amazingly, complete with ribbon.

I was a touch lazy (okay, a lot lazy) with my gift wrapping and I just used a box from Michaels. I wrapped it in some really nice looking hemp, though, and included my signature impossible-to-undo-without-scissors knot. It’s a tradition. These knots are BRUTAL! But she totally pinterested it up, too, with the hemp. That stuff has been all over the place lately.

It’s a bit of an inside joke (well, rather, it’s more knowing-that-Stripes-has-an-obsession-with-Guinea-Pigs thing), but I got Stripes the plastic Guinea Pig pictured above, and I made five or so party hats for her to wear (her name is Guineviere). Stripes shared the party hat love with her other Guinea Pig, the soft, fluffy, grumpy one pictured above.

The fluffy one is actually named Mr. Grumpy Guinea Pig and Plaid bought him for me a couple months ago because life had me down. Well, he and my main Harold [known to everyone else as that stuffed lion that sits on my bed] did not hit it off. After feeling guilty for leaving Mr. Grumpy Guinea Pig with Harold and Harold looking more and more upset everyday I realized Mr. Grumpy had to move to my bookshelf. I get a little too involved with my “inanimate objects” (I have seriously named almost everything I have owned at one point or another- Edward the plant, Esmeralda my car, oh yeah and Oliver :P) but I think it’s just a side of effect of watching Toy Story as a kid- admittedly reinforced by Toy Story 3…I digress.

Sequins made Plaid and myself some really neat cards! She makes the greatest cards (and they’re very pinteresty). I am super in love with the Hello one and may just keep it for myself!

This is a sad picture of an ornament I made for Plaid inspired by this Pinterest post…look for more in the near future!

This was the other ornament I made for Plaid. I LOVE him! I just used some Fimo, decided to make a monster, and this was the result. I think he is super cool and I kind of wish I had one for myself…To MICHAELS! Time to get more clay!

So those are the highlights of our mini-Christmas celebration. We hope you enjoyed our excessively Pinterested festivities-if you have any questions about how we made anything feel free to leave a comment and we’ll share our crafty secrets.

Happy Holidays!

Stripes, Sequins, Plaid, and Oliver!

Stripes: Hat Day and a Pinterest Challenge All In One

Hey! So final are OVER!! WOOOOO! I have so many awesome things coming up in the next month to post, I cannot wait to no longer be inundated with paper writing and test. Here’s a quick little look at my “fancy” winter hat.I always feel so fancy when I get to wear this hat. Last year the first time I wore it out of the house was the first day of snow in town which was super magical. And since it is hat season again, Miss Sequins sent me this “how to wear your hair while wearing a hat” tutorial since my hair is really long this year and I get really bad hat hair. When I was about 5 years old my mom used to call these “topsy tails” and used to do them as pigtails on me…and I LOVED THEM. I totally forgot how awesome they are until I saw the pin for them but I love this updated version of my favorite hair style from forever ago (….almost 20 years ago, gasp!).

Hat: Target (old), Coat: Kohls (old), Scarf: Pedros (old), Leggings: Target (old, but they essentially have the same thing still), Shirt: Kohls (really old), Boots: Rocket Dog via Famous Footwear (old).

I hope you’re having an awesome holiday time and are as excited as I am for my upcoming craftiness and adventures!
