I’m Dreaming of a Chartreuse Christmas

Christmas Outfit

Well, at least for my dress. I put together a cute little holiday outfit that I’ve been fantasizing about. I think it’s super cute for the holidays, and each piece would be great to remix into my own wardrobe for lots of further use!

1 I can’t think of anything better to wear than a chartreuse dress like Frozen Margaritas Dress | Modcloth

2 It took all my self control not to buy this sweater, which is on sale right now! Sequin Front Caridan | The Limited

3 I’m pretty sure I’ve had dreams about the Opaque Fairisle Tights | ASOS

4 I love these shoes and they’re the perfect touch Børn ‘Verna’ Flat | Nordstroms

5 A cute flower for my hair, such as this Magnolia Flower Clip | Enchantedly Yous, Etsy

Last Minute Errands

Marci 12-6-12 Top

I spent Thursday running errands with my mom. What started as a breakfast date turned into an all-day around-the-town errand running. I’m hosting a fun thing on Saturday for Kim and Kelsey, our annual Orphan Christmas which you’ll get to hear all about soon enough. Hosting means making sure my apartment isn’t gross and that there’s food stocked. It also means, apparently, lots of errands. Or maybe that’s just because I’ve postponed grocery shopping for a while. It’s anyone’s guess, really. All of it is worth it, though, since it’s been way too long since I’ve gotten to hang out with those lovely ladies!

Vest Skirt & Shoes: Thrifted | Shirt & Bag: H&M | Tights: Target | Earrings: Gift from David

Kels did a fun post about treating yourself nicely with your favorite clothes, and I have to completely agree. It’s super predictable, but I’m so drawn to bold, bright colorful clothes on my days off! And patterns! Oh lord, the patterns! I feel like it’s been a while since I pulled this vest out of the corner of my closet, but it was so worth the wait! This whole outfit is one my new favorites, but I know I say that a lot.

What are your favorite go-to outfits? Bright and bold? Subdued and classic?

The Power of Unicorns

I don’t take Facebook seriously, and on my personal page my about me goes like this-

If you’re bright pink and covered in glitter, there is a 98.45% chance that I’ll love you forever. The odds increase if you are also a unicorn.

It’s been a bit for a while now, but I have to say it’s true. If you’re a unicorn, there is a high probability that I will love you. So when David checked the mail and found this package waiting for me from the weekend, he won massive points.

It’s kind of hard to tell, I know but it’s a unicorn necklace he found online. That guy spoils me and I like it. Also, I didn’t realize this until after we did the photos, but it was super windy and I have a unicorn horn in every photo. I must be channeling their power!

Sweater & Shirt: H&M | Necklace: Gift | Shorts Tights & Shoes: Target

I have to say I’m really in love with this shirt from H&M (sale section, $5, yes please) but what really sealed the deal was how it perfectly frames the unicorn in the shirt pattern. I mean, it just doesn’t get much better than that!

My First Day of Work

If you’re even a little surprised to see that I wore my black skinny jeans in this outfit post, then clearly you and I have differing opinions on what it means to be obsessed. Which is fine. But seriously don’t be surprised.

Sweater & Jeans: Kohls | Shirt: H&M | Necklace: Gift | Shoes: Clarks

Like I said, don’t be surprised. Also, after my first day of work I found out the dress code was monochromatic black & white. Patternless black and white. Which is even more strict than the last time I had a job with a black and white dress code. So expect to see a hell of a lot more of these black skinny jeans.

David saw the first picture I posted and commented on how good I’m doing with the whole taking my own pictures thing. Of course, what he didn’t see in that picture is that it’s the closest thing to a full body shot. I failzored hardcore, friends. This was the best shoe shot I got. Also, I love these shoes. I don’t care how so not in fashion they are. I love them. Love love love.

I posted a photo on my other blog about my first day jitters. It’s not accurate, though. The photo above is way more accurate regarding how I looked on the first day. Can you see the difference? It’s subtle, I know.

Answer: no nose ring for work time. and this is how I feel about it.

Sequins: What to Wear to a Bonfire

So I think there’s a lot of confusion and skepticism in the blogging world about what bloggers wear in Real Life versus what they present on the blog. I hope I have some built up street cred, if you know what I’m sayin’, since a large majority of my outfits were taken on my lunch break. That being said, this outfit is one of the (if not The) first outfits I’ve staged entirely for the purposes of the blog. It’s cool, though, because I checked through my life archives (completely unrelated to blogging in any way), and yes, this is exactly what I would wear to anything that requires the outdoors and possibility of dirt.

Shirt: gift, Necklace: Market, Shorts: Target, Tights: gift Express, Shoes: H&M

This has also turned, magically, into the outfit I’m going to wear for the rest of the day. This is the first day in months that I’ve needed to add tights! Woohooo! Lordy I missed my tights. Anyway. This outfit comprises the main essentials to a daily look for me. Especially a “me” that isn’t working every weekday anymore. It has:

  • a brightly colored and vibrantly patterned shirt that’s oversized
  • sentimental piece of jewelry
  • shorts
  • bright (& comfy) tights
  • cute shoes that still work for dirt-related purposes

That’s literally all I would ever wear if my life consisted of exactly days like this. The shirt was a gift from this gentleman I met a couple years back when I was living at home. He moved here for school/work from Cameroon, and we had a few really great months of getting to know each other and learn more about our different cultures. He teased me because this is a men’s shirt, but honestly, it’s so damned comfortable I just can’t stand it. I have a full shirt & pants combo for a woman, but that outfit gets worn with much less frequency.

As for bonfires go, I swap what are usually ballet flats for shoes that tie, and I add layers. This is definitely a “if the weather is warm” look, but the tights do add some additional heat. And, you know, if it’s a bonfire in the woods, then I can definitely have extra points for visibility. You know this is a staged photo because if I’m actually rough-and-tumbling it, I don’t wear tights that are still hole-free and this comfortable (seriously, guys, have I mentioned how much I love these red tights?). Other than that, though, just slap on some mosquito repellent and I’m good to go!

I originally thought I wouldn’t have time this morning to go out and get a couple photos of myself, so I made a collage of my favorite “being outdoors with the chance of dirt” outfits. It was a ton of fun, and made me nostalgic for the days when I would wear what-the-fuck-ever. The time to start doing that again is now, and it’s starting with the outfit in this post! Woo!

Thanks for tuning in! I’m  so excited to be a part of this, and it’s fun to be making friends on the internets through this link up. You guys should totally check them out as well, since they kick ass.

Sequins: Odds & Ends

I was so distracted I didn’t even have a title for my post on Sunday. My bad.

Right now, I’m reading this book and this book. They’re both amazing and quick reads. The first one is particularly compelling, and broken into easy bite-sized pieces. Also, this is one of the coolest ideas for that region. I approve.

I have five loads of laundry to finish by the end of the day. It’s going to be a long day.

Oh have you seen this pin? That’s my tattoo. As in, that’s a photo of my wrist. I love that tattoo more and more, but the questions surrounding my arm seem to be growing in boldness since the tattoo. No, my scars aren’t fake. No, they aren’t tattoos “made to match”. Oh, and no, no you can not grab my arm or touch me in any way. I don’t care how curious you are.

I haven’t even commented on it yet, but Nicole’s post about makeup is amazing. I’m super proud of hr, in a creepy stalker blogger way. I went through something similar, and I’m at a happy middle ground where I rarely put on makeup, but don’t feel guilty when I choose to. It’s a difficult place to find.

There are a ton of these types of cars around my small hipster town. This one has the best back, hands down.

Is it hand’s down or hands down? I’ve asked lots of people, and no one seems to have a definitive answer.

Monsieur recently got into Doctor Who about frickin’ time, amiright? and so two nights ago we played this game. Hilarity and silliness ensued.

I’m avidly going through all the N64 games Monsieur put on my laptop (goodness gracious I love him) but I’m still stuck on this level and I can’t get past it! I need nine more notes, and I’m a perfectionist that refuses to leave until I find them again. Hmph.

I “made this” for my sister’s bridal shower. It’s the “trailmix” we used to eat on roadtrips when were kids. Granted, we never mixed it all together, but the point remains the same. I’ll even share my top secret recipe with you:

  • 1 bag of Lemonheads (or 2 boxes)
  • 3 bags of Sugarbabies (or 2 boxes)
  • 1 med. bag of plain M&Ms
  • 1 bag of Wintergreen Lifesavers

*Mix all ingredients in a bowl * Stir gently * Serve*

Clever, I know.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, but I want one of these. Specifically, this one.

That’s a family portrait I made for my mom, I think for her birthday. It’s sad to think that it’s not up-to-date anymore. I kind of miss that little fluffy face. A lot.

There might be a silly ridiculous giveaway in this post. Oh whoa now! What is it?

Leave a comment with a guess as to what this is, and I’ll pick someone to send a hand-made card to. Snazzy, eh? Okay, fine, mostly I’m bored. Give me an excuse to write a card, yeah?

Sequins: Memorial to Art

I’m house- and dog-sitting for my mom while she jaunts off for a quilting retreat this week, and it’s really nice to be in my old stomping grounds. Not so much the house, since she moved in to the house after I moved out for college. It’s still in the Seattle area, though, which means I still consider it my old stomping grounds. And for the kiddos who grew up with a Seattle zip code, I concede–I am one of those obnoxious wannabes who lived in the outskirts but claimed the city for my own. I call it valid, though. I’ve been eating at Thai Tom’s since I was twelve, and the main chef knew me well enough to compliment my freshman-aged self on the freshly-pinked locks. I volunteered at the Seattle Aquarium and was on first name basis with the cook at my favorite sandwich shop in Pike’s Place Market, until he left to find his luck in the UK. I could go one, but case in point, my street cred is earned. Yo.

One of my favorite ever-evolving memories is of this random-ass building in Seattle’s U-District. I’ve grown up staring at it as we’d drive by to other places. First it was an actual store, named Tubs, and it looked like the most elegant, fancy building I’d seen (in my sheltered life). I’ve watched the business close, and the building be abandoned. I’ve seen the street artists slowly but steadily reclaim it as their own. My mom and I were driving past the building, and she indulged me in an impromptu photoshoot when I saw how the building’s most recent designs.

I love this building. And I love this city. I’m so excited to be moving back to Seattle. I mean, yes, right now I’m horribly stressed and grumpy and overwhelmed, but in the long run, I’m excited. I think. Being in a city full of art and community and graffiti and noise–that’s exciting to me. And I’ll be even more excited when August is over, I have a place to live, and a job to pay for things again. Wish me luck.

Sequins: Sunday Musings

This post is later than intended. One of the rattas fell of their play area (which is the top of our heater, which is turned off and unplugged), and is now hiding inside the heater. It’s been an interesting day so far >.> That being said, here’s what has my attention lately…

This challenge has been a ton of fun, and I’ve been horrible at keeping up with it. Sundays are turning into my catch-up days. I’m still about a week behind, but I figure it doesn’t really matter, since I’m digging the prompts. Here’s one I worked on today

I’ve been way way way sporadic in my reading, which is super unusual for me. Usually I’m a two-books-a-month kind of girl, but lately I can’t focus as well. I have been reading this book, though, which is holding my attention. Ready for me to reveal my true depth in nerdom?

Which leads me to my new favorite website, PopMatters and also the tv show I’ve been watching on Netflix whenever I’m working on art projects

Buffy is a classic, and I love it. I love it so much. Even Monsieur is getting into the show as I’ve been rewatching it, which is funny, since he’s not a big fan of most of what I watch (and by most of what I watch, I really mean I watch pretty much nothing at all and he likes most of it).

Oh and slightly off topic? I think Stripes & I would look pretty bitchin’ wearing this necklace as our BFF necklace

One of my favorite bloggers, Kaylah from The Dainty Squid, is doing a a super cool giveaway. That I want to win. Which is why I’m getting myself an extra chance to win by sharing it with you here. See the giveaway? See how cool it is?

Oh and I’ll do a full post about it later, but just as a sneak peek, I had a blast on Saturday with the Carpenter (from our Tea Party). We took our cameras to the best spot in our town for a fun photo shoot.

Hope everyone else is having a good Sunday! Wish me luck wrangling my silly goose of a ratta.

Sequins: How I Entertain Myself

Instead of giving you another excuse about no outfits or a real post, I figured instead, I’d write a real post! You know, the kind that just doesn’t happen to have any outfit photos in it. I scoured the internets to find a ton of fun, interesting links to share with you*

If you can get past how incredibly phallic-shaped this infographic is, it’s totally interesting. And a good way to build up your to-read list (not that my towering stack needs any more assistance!)

Dead Words is my absolute favorite for design, typography, and learning new words. Those are like three of my favorite things, guys, so it’s pretty cool.

#16. Østersøen (Ödland, Sankta Lucia) from Lorenzo Papace

This videos is a ton of fun to watch. Also, I’m a fan of the music. Mostly, though, I love watching the video. I can’t remember which blogger first shared it, here you go.

Birth To Thrive, a blog by Thrive By Five has a really interesting article on the future possibility of social impact bonds paying for higher quality pre-k education. It was pretty interesting, if that’s your thing.

BuzzFeed’s 13 Simple Steps to Get You Through a Rough Day is pretty effective. And trust me, this past week has been full of rough days to get through!

GQ had a great interview with Joss Whedon that reaffirmed my belief that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the most amazing TV shows ever made. Also, if you haven’t already seen The Avengers, do so now. Please.

*Okay, okay, I scrolled through my Facebook wall and I’m just sharing everything I linked to on Facebook in the past month.

Sequins 30 for 30 Golden Twenty Something Age

There’s something kind of amazing about being a twenty something in a small town. Every now and then, the stars line up right and you get to do some really fun things. One of our (fabulous but incredibly flaky) friends was celebrating his birthday, so we bought over some fruit, hummus, pita chips, cheese plate, and a bottle of cake (Three Olive’s “Cake” flavored Vodka. Seriously, cross my heart, it tasted like funfetti that had vodka poured into it. Crazy weird) and had a ton of fun.

I know I definitely partied it up a bit in college, and there’s this fine balance that everyone seems to need a few years to figure out about how to have fun drinking without going overboard, and this was a party where everyone there was in a good rhythm. There were the classic throw backs like beer pong, but there was actual ping pong, too. There was drunk kayaking, there was a pinata, there was a barbeque full of ribs, there was some strange frisbee jousting, night-time hackey-sacking and croquet. All of this took place on their lake-side lawn, which framed the most beautiful sunset.

Um so do you see the chicken? Because the best part were definitely the chickens! They have five of them, and they’re just past their awkward, haven’t-finished-changing-all-the-feathers-yet stage, so they had these great little pigeon-sized bodies just full of super soft feathers. I know I’ve posted about my lack of love towards the avian population, but I’ve always secretly wanted chickens. And I think these guys may have helped convince Monsieur that we need chickens…

I was bonding pretty hard core with this chicken. We watched the sunset together.

Oh and I guess I can show you guys what I wore. For the record (since you’ve already got a pretty good look), this was one of those days where I wasn’t so much thinking about putting together an outfit, as I was grabbing all my favorite pieces, and this is the outfit that occurred. I was a big fan, though. It was super fun!
