Taking Back Fun

I’m back! I have internet, I have a roof over my head that is shared only with David (and our rattas, of course), and I (unfortunately) still have a lot of time on my hand for this whole blogging thing.

The past weekend was an utter, abysmal failure. It’s been a long time since anything has been that upsetting, or left that much of an impact on my psyche, but I guess, such is life. Sunday was full of errands, just like every other day (man moving is hard), so David and I decided to have a bit of fun. My fun? Blue hair!

I love this shot, because look at that gradient from summery green to fall orange! Also, look at that bright blue hair! Okay, so what if it’s just a wig? I had a ton of fun wearing it. David and I are working on our Halloween costumes and this wig is part of mine. It’s now also part of a desire I have to grow out my hair just a bit more and then do crazy dye jobs to it.

Wig: Goodwill | Sweater: Thrifted (H&M) | Shirt: Target | Skirt: Thrifted | Boots & Tights: Fred Meyer

And just in case you think it’s an empty threat, all this blue hair talk, have I ever told you guys about that time I dyed my hair bright pink? Best five months of my life. Well, at least hair-wise it was.

Sequins: Odds & Ends

I was so distracted I didn’t even have a title for my post on Sunday. My bad.

Right now, I’m reading this book and this book. They’re both amazing and quick reads. The first one is particularly compelling, and broken into easy bite-sized pieces. Also, this is one of the coolest ideas for that region. I approve.

I have five loads of laundry to finish by the end of the day. It’s going to be a long day.

Oh have you seen this pin? That’s my tattoo. As in, that’s a photo of my wrist. I love that tattoo more and more, but the questions surrounding my arm seem to be growing in boldness since the tattoo. No, my scars aren’t fake. No, they aren’t tattoos “made to match”. Oh, and no, no you can not grab my arm or touch me in any way. I don’t care how curious you are.

I haven’t even commented on it yet, but Nicole’s post about makeup is amazing. I’m super proud of hr, in a creepy stalker blogger way. I went through something similar, and I’m at a happy middle ground where I rarely put on makeup, but don’t feel guilty when I choose to. It’s a difficult place to find.

There are a ton of these types of cars around my small hipster town. This one has the best back, hands down.

Is it hand’s down or hands down? I’ve asked lots of people, and no one seems to have a definitive answer.

Monsieur recently got into Doctor Who about frickin’ time, amiright? and so two nights ago we played this game. Hilarity and silliness ensued.

I’m avidly going through all the N64 games Monsieur put on my laptop (goodness gracious I love him) but I’m still stuck on this level and I can’t get past it! I need nine more notes, and I’m a perfectionist that refuses to leave until I find them again. Hmph.

I “made this” for my sister’s bridal shower. It’s the “trailmix” we used to eat on roadtrips when were kids. Granted, we never mixed it all together, but the point remains the same. I’ll even share my top secret recipe with you:

  • 1 bag of Lemonheads (or 2 boxes)
  • 3 bags of Sugarbabies (or 2 boxes)
  • 1 med. bag of plain M&Ms
  • 1 bag of Wintergreen Lifesavers

*Mix all ingredients in a bowl * Stir gently * Serve*

Clever, I know.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, but I want one of these. Specifically, this one.

That’s a family portrait I made for my mom, I think for her birthday. It’s sad to think that it’s not up-to-date anymore. I kind of miss that little fluffy face. A lot.

There might be a silly ridiculous giveaway in this post. Oh whoa now! What is it?

Leave a comment with a guess as to what this is, and I’ll pick someone to send a hand-made card to. Snazzy, eh? Okay, fine, mostly I’m bored. Give me an excuse to write a card, yeah?

Sequins: Dress Your Best, Except When You Don’t

There are a few Bigger Name Bloggers who get teased on the Blogger Hate Sites (that I never ever ever read) for using that phrase. It’s the only phrase I could think of though, when posting a super casual outfit on this blog. I know I dress up a lot for the fashion shoots, and Stripes will confirm–it isn’t because I know I’ll have a camera poised on me. It’s just how I dress. Casual, unless it’s a funky shorts-and-tights combo, is pretty rare in my world.

You would make this face too, if someone had a camera that close to it

Not non-existent, though! As Stripes mentioned, we were both in Seattle this past weekend. I did the amazing accomplishment of only packing two tops, a pair of shorts, tights, and jeans. It was amazing. I never pack that lightly, or with that much denim. And now I know why… I was so sick of everything before the first day was over! My sister wanted to go to the mall to look at this great store for wedding jewelery, and across the aisle (row? walkway? I almost wrote street…) was a fun store with cute jewelry and sassy shirts. Which is how I ended up wearing this great combination of clothing…

Shirt: Fuego/ Keffiyeh: Palestine/ Shorts: Sojourner/ Tights: ModSock/ Shoes: B.A.I.T

I never dress this way. Except when, apparently, I do! I love this shirt, though. You can’t see the close up (yet) but it has a shallow v-neck. It is amazingly soft. It has a lime-green print of a long horn. I’m not sure what more I can ask for in a shirt, and have said requests be within legal parameters. I also had a fun time shopping with Stripes. We’ve both got some sad unfortunate drama in our backburners, so it was equally nice to 1) have someone tell me I looked amazing in what I tried on and 2) have someone mope for a couple minutes afterwards over iced coffee. That’s what best friends are for.

Man I miss the city. One day I’ll convince Monsieur that cities aren’t the devil’s playground (just talking about the possibility of moving to Portland makes him break out in hives). Then I shall rule the world.

Also, this isn’t like an official contest, but if someone has the ability to turn that bottom right photo of my wide-eyed face in a giff that blinks very rarely, I might have a trinket with your name on it. Because that would be hilarious. Also because I’m pretty sure that photo has already blinked twice while I’ve been typing this.

I am creepy.

Sequins: Sunday Musings

This post is later than intended. One of the rattas fell of their play area (which is the top of our heater, which is turned off and unplugged), and is now hiding inside the heater. It’s been an interesting day so far >.> That being said, here’s what has my attention lately…

This challenge has been a ton of fun, and I’ve been horrible at keeping up with it. Sundays are turning into my catch-up days. I’m still about a week behind, but I figure it doesn’t really matter, since I’m digging the prompts. Here’s one I worked on today

I’ve been way way way sporadic in my reading, which is super unusual for me. Usually I’m a two-books-a-month kind of girl, but lately I can’t focus as well. I have been reading this book, though, which is holding my attention. Ready for me to reveal my true depth in nerdom?

Which leads me to my new favorite website, PopMatters and also the tv show I’ve been watching on Netflix whenever I’m working on art projects

Buffy is a classic, and I love it. I love it so much. Even Monsieur is getting into the show as I’ve been rewatching it, which is funny, since he’s not a big fan of most of what I watch (and by most of what I watch, I really mean I watch pretty much nothing at all and he likes most of it).

Oh and slightly off topic? I think Stripes & I would look pretty bitchin’ wearing this necklace as our BFF necklace

One of my favorite bloggers, Kaylah from The Dainty Squid, is doing a a super cool giveaway. That I want to win. Which is why I’m getting myself an extra chance to win by sharing it with you here. See the giveaway? See how cool it is?

Oh and I’ll do a full post about it later, but just as a sneak peek, I had a blast on Saturday with the Carpenter (from our Tea Party). We took our cameras to the best spot in our town for a fun photo shoot.

Hope everyone else is having a good Sunday! Wish me luck wrangling my silly goose of a ratta.

A Mad Hatter TeaParty

Stripes and Sequins, heretofore to be known as Alice and the White Rabbit, decided to join forces with the Dormouse to throw a going away party for Plaid–aka the Mad Hatter, naturally.

The Mad Hatter is where all of our epic themed parties were born, so it was just really perfect for Alice and the White Rabbit to throw her a tea party. We invited her faithful, albeit silly, friends from Wonderland to help us celebrate. There was the Carpenter, a Slythy Tove, a Mome Rath, and the Mushrooms from Wonderland. And really, what better way to celebrate a Mad Hatter Tea Party than with an epic food fight?

There was really not a whole lot of food fighting shots since, you know, the White Rabbit was in on the action for 90% of the time. Photos of the aftermath, however, where duly documented. And yes, for those curious, that super soaker is full of lemon-lime soda.

Yes, just in case you noticed, the White Rabbit was the cleanest at the end of the battle. Mysterious forces, people. Ears and bowties were lost, however. And for those about to speak up, outraged at the mess we inflicted on a public park, let your concerns rest easy. We laid out plastic tablecloths to catch most of the mess and then used brooms and buckets of water to clean up after ourselves. Because that’s just how we roll.

*For those curious, the White Rabbit made the banner and Alice’s apron from scratch, and used red acrylic paint, fabric scraps, scrapbooking flowers and glitter to make the Mad Hatter’s Hat. Alice did an amazing job of Michael runs, making potatoes for the food fight, coordinating rides, and making the flower table decorations as well as the placesettings. And Monsieur, who unfortunately had to work during the party, was amazing and made two boxes of mac and cheese, two things of pudding, and one box of jello for our throwing pleasure. Also thanks to the Carpenter, who made two fabulous newspaper bowties–one for his costume and one for the Mad Hatter’s. Thanks to everyone (shoutout to the Dormouse!) for helping set up beforehand and for getting into the spirit of things to give our favorite Mad Hatter an amazing send off as she leaves our small pond for some bigger lakes! We love you, you crazy beautiful Mad Hatter!

Stripes: Awesome Stuff Sunday 3.25

It’s that day of the week again! Here are some of the awesome things I found on the internet this week, hope you enjoy!

It’s killing me that I do not own these tights from BZRshop’s Etsy! OMG if you were to buy these for me, you would be my favorite person ever.

This is a really great article from Psychology Today about resiliency and not giving up in everyday life. I really like that it applies to pretty much any life situations and how it emphasizes the ability of the individual to improve their own situation. There’s nothing like taking action to make you feel empowered!

Best.Photobomb.EVER.

Like I needed another reason to think a’capella is amazing.

I’ve also been addicted to this song. I’m not sure why but I can’t stop listening.

Happy Sunday!

Stripes: Awesome Stuff Sunday 3.18

I hope everyone one had an awesome week, here are the highlights of what I found on the internet this week:

The cute animal of the week  is this hipster fishy. Hipster fishy says, “I came from this pet store in a really obscure part of Portland, I mean I could tell you the name but you’ve never heard of it.”

I adore this line of literary clothing!

Here’s your proper dose of good a’capella for the week:

Yes, this week there are 2 a’capella songs, I was thinking you needed a little bigger dose because it’s been a while since I posted any. This is Realtime, they were a local quartet who won some big titles but they recently got a new tenor (whom I am friends with, nbd or anything) and became Via Voice. Anyways, Loch Lomond is one of the songs that kept me singing as a kid because I heard a choir do it when I was in elementary school and decided on the spot that I wanted to be able to do it too. And actually, there are only 2 other songs that fall in this category and I’m working on one right now (details on that one later) 🙂

And, finally, I’ve spent most of my spring break thus far wishing I was even half as fierce as Beyonce.
